Question by ali_electric69: Homemade dog food for a never ending empty tummy!?
I am looking for some new ideas for my German Shepherds homemade dog food. He has multiple health problems such as EPI and allergies so feeding can be quite the chore.
He can only have food low in fat and nothing with wheat, corn, or beef.
Some of the things that I rotate giving him are;
Chicken, turkey, tuna (in small amounts), salmon, eggs, oatmeal, brown rice, peas, green beans, carrots, apple sauce, and I have heard that canned pumpkin is good for them as well but I have not tried it yet.
Everything that I feed him has little to no salt, and no added sugar. I am just looking for some more ideas to help fill up his never ending empty tummy!
Thank you-!
Thanks Harley =} Its expensive and tough at times but I love him to death and would do anything for that big goofy mutt.

Answer by Tina T Try adding some fruits into his diet too…my golden loves Banana’s and oranges of all things!! Pumpkin is good for them as well.
Question by Rea: I’m looking for a homemade alternative to dog shampoo that puts oils back in my dogs skin.?
I’ve taken him to the vet, he has allergies. His coat is a mess, he’s bloody raw. I’ve been feeding him pork and sweetpotatoes, giving him Benedryl, antibiotics. The vet wants me to buy a shampoo that takes care of the flakes and crust, and a shampoo that puts oils back in his skin. The shampoos are $ 20 a bottle.(which I can’t afford) Oatmeal baths have helped get rid of the flaking, now I’m looking for an alternative to the shampoo that puts oils back in his skin. Any suggestions?

Answer by 420 Use skin so soft. It’s not a shampoo but it can be applied after a bath and helps with the itching and flakes.

I am wanting to get a breed of dog that grows to be apx 150 pounds and wanted to add home made dog food in addition to the food I buy (I use Natural Balance Duck and Potatoe, grain free/allergy formula)…
So here is my list of foods I was thinking of using as an addition to the store bought (I would do maybe 1-2 curps store bought and add the rest as home made)
Meat-
Talapia
Ground Turkey
Salmon
Carne Asada/lean beef
maybe occasionally chicken
*Please critique these choices and if you know of any additional meats that would be great, especially for GIANT breed OR allergy prone dogs, let me know!
NON meat foods (mainly to lower from feeding all protein and add filler without fat/added calories)
Canned, plain (no seasoning) pumpkin-which wouldn’t be every day
Canned, sodium free green beans
Green Peas
Oats (for oatmeal, not the quick cooking, just plain, old fashioned oats)
Anything I forgot or need to take of my list, please let me know, with the source? THANKS!
I want to clarify because I think the way I wrote it made it sound like I would slop stuff together…. not at all. What I meant was the foods I listed were ones I was wondering if would be healthy/beneficial, especially for allergy prone dogs. I am going to join a group on homemade dog food/feeding, but wanted to get a general idea on the foods I listed.
