Question by Cowgirl Up: Need help with MAJOR Flea infestation of home & yard.?
I have several dogs, all of which are treated by frontline, groomed weekly and flea and tick free. My home and yard are infested with them. I read that watering your lawn will usually do the trick outside, but that is not working in my case.

I’ve used a carpet powder for fleas in my home, mop daily, vacuum along baseboards, have even taken out area rugs and nothing seems to be helping.

My kids play outside, and are covered in them which makes playing outside impossible. I’ve even started seeing them inside our vehicles.

I really need a sure fire way of getting rid of them because my son has skin allergies, and the fleas are literally driving him crazy, not to mention that I’m extremely paranoid we will accidentally ingest them! YUK!

Most home improvement stores have powers that will kill fleas.

Flea Infestation While On Frontline Plus?

OK, we are having a serious flea problem and as many of you dog owners probably can relate, it’s EXTREMELY frustrating! We’ve had Princess since November and she’s been on Frontline Plus since we’ve had her with no problems. Well last month I noticed her itching and thought maybe she had fleas. I took her to the vet and they said it was allergies which I didn’t quite buy and sure enough when I got home later I noticed a few fleas on her.
We gave her a capstar and vacuumed with powder and washed all bedding, sheets, etc and then soon it was time for her next dose of Frontline and it seemed to be okay after that.
Well starting a few days ago she started itching again bad and now like overnight fleas are everywhere. I realize these are the eggs that hatched and it’s starting a whole new cycle.
Obviously Frontline isn’t working for her. And now we can’t give her anything new for almost a month since we just gave her frontline 2 days ago. We can do capstars but wont we have to do them like everyday to do any good, and the eggs will still be there??
Now this may be a dumb question, but if she was on something that worked similiar like advantage or even comfortis, wouldn’t she be like her own flea killer.. like obviously we would vacuum, probably flea bomb, etc., but if there are fleas left, wouldn’t eventually she kill them all because if they jumped on her the meds would kill it?
Also, I read about treating your yard, how can you possible treat everywhere your dog goes? And isn’t that the whole purpose of flea medication is that they can go places where there are fleas potentially (we take her to the dog park in our apartment complex) and they’ll be protected?
Sorry, I know this is like a bunch of questions in one, but any input you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!! As you can tell, I’m very overwhelmed and frustrated!

About a month and a half ago the infestation started. Our apartment has a dog and cat and both were not protected enough from the fleas. My dog was on some preventatives but not any that were good enough and my roommates cat wasn’t on anything. When it got out of control, I bombed the place twice (Once with BioSpot fogger and the second time with Hartz fogger). The biospot worked everywhere but the kitchen. That’s when I got the Hartz defogger and fogged the kitchen and the living room part connecting to kitchen. After that I tried spraying the kitchen with deflea stuff and using powder and vacuuming the floor as I did with carpet. None of it has worked. They’re spreading into the hallway. I’m keeping my dog in my room and she’s on Program oral, Adam’s topical, and Sergeants flea collar. It’s been working pretty good so far but not perfect. My roommate has a Hartz collar and Hartz weekly spray for the cat.
Since we live in apartment I’m thinking if we tell them about the problem they could call an exterminator. Would they make us pay since we have animals (well they only know about my dog)? Will they even call an exterminator?
It’s getting so out of control that I have to starve myself because if I walk to the kitchen my feet get attacked and bit.
I’m about to take my dog to my parents for the mean time to protect her health but I think I’m allergic to the pests. Ever sense the problem my allergies have been out of control and I’ve gotten to where I feel them all over my legs even when they’re not there.
But basically my question is will my apartment take care of the problem or will I get blamed for my dog and end up having to pay for it? If I do have to pay for it how much will it be?
Sorry this is so long :( just wanted to get the whole story out! Thanks! :)
