Question by wendi_just_me: I rescued a siberian husky and she has balding over her trunk and irritated skin?
I rescued this dog yeasterday from neglectful owners. She is very itchy and has bald patches over her body, I’m positive it isn’t mange because her legs and head are clear. She is overweight and a senior. I can’t afford a vet for another few weeks or so… I have done some research and I am aware that it could be a thyroid problem, allergies, or yeast infection. She was being fed alpo by her previous owners, I am feeding her Iams canned, I’m going to switch her over to Neutro friday when I get paid. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate them. Note: I’m not a bad owner, my boyfriend’s employer moved out of state, and I’m a full-time college student who is unemployed and I have been living off of loans and grants for the last 4 & 1/2 years and because I have too many credit hours they have revoked them. I literally rescued this dog from morons who are guilty of abuse and neglect. I WILL TAKE HER IN TO SEE MY VET AS SOON AS I HAVE THE MONEY TO DO SO, untill then my hands aree tied.

Question by itry: my chihuahua’s eye seems to be irritated or infected? Why? How to heal?
It seems to irritate her, is a little swollen and she seems to be squinting with it. This started a day ago and she had a little discharge today. Want to see if there is anything I can try to help her with at home first.
I am looking for some home remedies to allievate or cure her symptoms. I have tried to do a compress but she runs away. I gave her a drop of infants tylenol today and she seemed more energetic. Seems to get worse at night.
(Yes, I know I should take her to a vet and might do it anyway. I first want to see if its anything I can fix. We just took our other dog to the vet and spent $ 400 to find out he had gas and basicaly I could have given him OTC med. This dog I spend $ 4500 for surgery on her leg when she broke it so I really cant afford anymore bills unless i am absolutely sure its not something I can help her with at home first.)
Here are some things I thought might have caused it…?Allergies? we have been on walks thru wildflowers lately, she will run thru brush sometimes-allergic reaction or scratch?
I have been pouring some powder from treats over the dogs food lately for them to eat-maybe some particles got in her eye?
She recently had a bath, maybe some baby shampoo accidently didn’t get rinsed off (although these have never happened before)
Or it could be something totally different!
Any suggestions, advice or experience? Tips would be so appreciated! I really want to help her and am wondering if its temporary or what we could try first. thanks!

First of all, NEVER give a dog Tylenol unless a vet specifically tells you to and how much to give. Tylenol is TOXIC and can kill your dog if you continue to give it to her. You need to take your Chihuahua to the vet. You have no other option! You cannot cure or treat a problem, until you know exactly what the problem you are treating is. When it comes to the eyes, you can cause your dog more severe injury, more pain or you can cause your dog to go blind, if you start trying to treat your dog on your own without a vets advice. Never mess around when it comes to the eyes. If you are honest in what you are saying about really wanting to help your Chi, then do the right thing and take her to the vet, get her properly diagnosed and treated. Anything could have caused this to happen! Your Chihuahua is in pain! If you really love her, then prove it by having her eye checked by a vet! There is NOTHING OTC that will help her! Only a vet can! This will not get better on it’s own! If anything, it will get worse without medical attention! Again, PLEASE DO NOT give her anymore Tylenol!!!

Question by hyr: My Vizsla dog has irritated red skin, could he have allergies?
I have a 5-year old Vizsla named Bobo. The skin under his hind quarters (where there is no hair) gets very red and irritated. Then he licks it and makes it even worse. I have not changed his food or treats in years. He is on Nutromax Large Breeds (blue bag) and Iams cookies. Could he have environmental allergies, like people have? Could an allergy to food develop suddenly? It seems to be worse after he plays outside. The vet says to just spray bitter apple and give him benadryl but it’s not working!! What is this and what should I do?

It could be. Or it might just be from the weather or something he got into.
What do you think? Answer below!

I have a 4 month old Maremma X Blue Heeler and have been trying to get to the bottom of her itchy skin problem. She has been treated for fleas and does not have them. We are very dilligent with treatment. I am thinking now that she most likely has a food allergy.
the skin on her belly is very pink and quite warm. She sometimes gets very frustrated and whimpers while she scratches.
She is on pro-plan puppy dry food for large breeds and gets those logs of dog meat from the fridge section at the supermarket.
Does anyone know of any ways I can test my puppy for allergies without taking her back to the vet? He just gave her antihistamines and said I had to figure out what the possible source is…
Any ideas? I’m after knowledgable sources such as vets, vet nurses or breeders. Thank you.
