Question by hayley2192: What are possible reasons for my dog itching all the time?
My dog ( a 7month old lab mix) started itching constantly about a month ago. Its so bad at night he stays up biting and itching himself. Mainly his paws, legs and thighs. So we took him to the vet and they gave us hydroxzine to give him twice a day thinking it was allergies. We were told it took 10-14 days to see results. He was still itching so we got oatmeal baths and the cool spot spray. The bath would help for a day and hed be back being miserable. He also began developing small bald areas on his ears and scabs in his ears. After there was still no resolve and the new developments we took him back. We saw another vet at the practice. He decided to do a skin scrape (Which broke my heart because I could hear him screaming). He didn’t see any mites or scabies in the sample but thought we should treat anyway because of the clinical presentation. So he is getting Ivermectin injections every 48hours x3 then once a week for a few weeks. They are slowly increasing the dose since he is a mix and we are unsure of what hes mixed with and want to avoid the herding dog reactions. Hes getting his 3rd injection tmw and we haven’t seen any improvement. What else could be causing the itching? Does the Ivermectin take awhile to work? Thanks for taking the time to read all of this.
Also, he does not have fleas and gets the appropriate preventative

They think she is suffering . I tell them all dogs itch . they have her on prevecox for athritis pain, glucosamine for her joints. She has to take allergy medicine and thyroid medicine. We have to wash her 1 a week maybe more because her skin gets greasy and stinky . She also has really bad ear infections constantly and we have done everything the doctor prescribed to get them better.
PLEASE help ! I dont want them to put her to sleep . She still walks and kisses my face in the morning . she still wants her tummy rubbed . If we can just find something to help her ears and her itching then they wont put her to sleep !

I think you are bathing her too much. He skin may be dry and thats why it’s so itchy. Make sure she doesn’t have fleas and when you do give her a bath make sure to use something soothing for the itch like oatmeal shampoo or even head and shoulders.

Question by Hana: My dog is always biting and itching but doesnt have fleas!?! please help!?
my dog is a 10 month shih tzu and he recently went into a vet check up and they gave us some medication for him and he started to do better. but after he stopped taking it he started to itch alot. the doctor said it was allergies to food, or outside allergies. he currently eats benefit for pups and we bathe him every 2 weeks. when i tried looking for the fleas or ticks, all i find are little black critters but no eggs. he recently got worst since i look him outside to use the bathroom and i think a bug bite him? because he started to run out of the grass and itch himself.
i also heard that it that it could be dried skin? if so what shampoo should i change to? im currently using hartz ultraguard and top paw bright and brilliant whitening conditioner.
im thinking about changing his dog food, shampoo and getting flea treatment just in case but looking for other opinions!

Question by anne: Help me, my dog is itching so horribly!!?
My dog Benji is a border collie. when he was a pup the vet thought he might have a mite so we dipped him. the dip helped and then the doctor said that since it worked so quickly it may have just been dry skin, and the dip soothed it. well he has been itching lately (he is now about 3 years old) horribly. we tried bathing him with a special shampoo, and we have been giving him allergy medicine. but nothing is helping.. his skin is flakey and really red and blotchy. he scratches it so often, and cries when he scratches it… i think its starting to hurt him… and i cant figure it out. the vet is blowing it off. *but the vet for the small town i live in is not a very nice man and just ignores the animals problems basically* it really worries me, and I want to help my little baby. also we have another dog (a pit bull) and she doesnt have this problem at all. please help
oh sorry i didnt include this
he is not losing his fur where he itches

First off, that man should not be treating animals if he does not feel anything towards them nor if he does not care for their problems. I suggest finding another vet that can help with the problem. It might be a bit of a drive, but your furry friend is, I believe, worth it.
What do you think? Answer below!

Question by Dethklok: dog itching problems?
I have a husky cross who is itching like mad, when I pet him his skin will twitch and he will start trying to scratch with his rear paw. Now I’ve checked for fleas (my other dog doesn’t have any and both are on flea meds) I was thinking maybe a skin condition since he has had allergies in the past but I cant see anything.
He is also shedding alot and is producing alot of dander.
