Help with a weird looking bug bite?

Question by Amelia X: Help with a weird looking bug bite?
I have this weird bug bite on the back of my left leg. I think it’s from a mosquito, since I saw one right before I got bit. I’ve had it for a couple of days and the skin around it developed a red, blotchy rash. Around that is a thick, pale ring. So, from the inside outward: bug bite, red rash, pale ring. It looks like the exact opposite of this, with the red and white reversed: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8e/Bullseye_Lyme_Disease_Rash.jpg
Also, the bite is a bit smaller.
It DOES NOT look like a bulls-eye, so I’m pretty sure I don’t have Lyme Disease. Also, I have multiple bites like this, but the one on my leg is the worst (I got them all in one night, so I’m pretty sure they were from the same type of bug). From the middle of the mosquito bite to the edge of the white ring, it is almost 1 1/2 inches.
All of the bites have swelled up pretty big. They’re itchy and are sensitive to the touch. I have no other symptoms, except a sore throat that I got the same night I was bitten (however I think this might have just been allergies, and the sore throat is almost completely gone now).
I have very sensitive skin and I’m allergic to quite a lot (pollen, honey, dogs, mold, etc.) However, none of my allergies are fatal. Do you think maybe I got an allergic reaction to the bite? I’ve gotten mosquito bites years ago and they didn’t look like this! Could I have devolped some type of allergy to it?
The swelling seems to be going down a bit, but after that I noticed a white ring. I just want to make sure this isn’t serious or anything. If anyone has any ideas of what could be causing this, or some pictures, I would be very grateful. Thanks!
It looks exactly like this, but with a white ring around it. http://www.skinsight.com/info/files/image_upload/Bite1%20copy_2_0.jpg

I also had one like that but not as big as one inch…..i just applied alcohol to it…..pray….and….after 18 hours the white thing turned solid and detached….i even examined it…..it looked crystallized…..but in your case it might take maybe the longest is a week.

Question by prettyblueeyes101010: Dog won’t stop scratching, looking for a homeopathic remedy.?
I have a bichon frise, which I have recently been told have a tendency to have allergies and skin problems. Well he scratches himself so much that he has basically caused horrible cuts, open wounds, and infections. I have had to go to the vet numerous times so they can shave the area and give him antibiotics to clear it up. Then he will be good for a time and it will start again.

I have tried teaching him that scratching is bad, and he is smart enough now to stop scratching when I come in the room.

I tried changing the food he eats and even bought allergy prone food, but that didn’t stop him.

Started using the oatmeal shampoo that is for dry itchy skin from Dr. Foster & Smith, still won’t stop scratching.

I bought the glue on plastic nail covers that slip over his nails, within 3 days he figured out he could chew them off or just lick them to death until the nail glue dissolved.

The vet gave me benadryl & gave it to him up to 3 times a day to stop itching like the doctor ordered. And he was totally lazy and drugged out, but would still manage to scratch himself like crazy.

I just ordered the PediPaws nail rounder, which is supposed to round the nails instead of cut them.

But even if that works I would like to try a homeopathic remedy to help him. This has been going on for almost 2 years with no help from anything and I can just see how miserable he is. The wounds are usually on his ears or right under him & he looks like an abused dog & I can just tell he is in so much pain.

HELP!!
Shortening his hair just makes it worse because then his nails can get through his hair and really scratch himself up.

He is up to date on all meds & takes flea/tick/heartworm meds regularly.

The vet just says this is not irregular in bichon frises.

And the vet didn’t say the cause? Well, maybe you could try having him shaved….maybe the coat is causing some irritation. So maybe try some lotion or conditioner that would stop the scratching.

Another thing, does he have his shots up to date and tests for like parasites and stuff? (the routine testing) Also, fleas/ticks?? Does he have anti-flea/tick med?

OmiGosh I am so sorry…poor thing! :(

Good luck! And try googling it too…something I found:

Yup, I think keeping the hair on the shorter end helps :)

Help looking for Juniper Hedges!?

Question by Angeleyes: Help looking for Juniper Hedges!?
I am trying to find a place to buy Juniper Hedges. I believe they’re called Virginiana Juniper Hedges actually.

I like Juniper, and as far as I know they aren’t toxic to dogs (our dog doesn’t chew things, but we may rescue another dog and you never know). We have an area in an L-shape, about 25 foot and then 23 feet. We live on a corner house in NYC, and would like to prevent the street walkers from even seeing our dog in the yard (in fear of taunting him, throwing something over or even jumping over as there have been some thefts of dogs lately). I always watch him outside, but sometimes I wait in the kitchen by the door while he does his business if it’s bad out or late, and he has life threatening food allergies so it’s very important to us to protect him.

We would like them close together or full for privacy, about 6 foot (our gate is brick and stone, holes in spots due to decor- the point of the bushes/hedges).

Where can I get them online? Any other suggestions?
BTW, I checked Gurny and the reviews are that everyone gets half dead ones that don’t make it. So I’d like to find a more reliable supplier! Thank you though!!!!

Sure – you can buy them from the large supplier Gurney – their site with the product is below.
