Question by tarra: What else can I give my dog? She has Malassezia Pachydermatis Dermatitis?
I bath my dog twice a week with Malaseb Shampoo. I got my rescue dog 11 months ago, she is 22 months old now. I give her 1 capsule of Candida Clear a day, Duraflora capsules to help keep good bacteria in her gut, brewers yeast, Coconut oil, Cold Compressed Flax seed oil capsules (1 twice daily).

She is an extremely fuzzy eater, I have managed to get her to eat dried food (Petsathome) own make with prebiotics and probiotics, I have to add butchers canned gluten and wheat free tin to it or she won’t eat the dry the food.

The vet is very impressed with her coat and says her skin is doing well. Does anyone know how to keep your dog free of yeast? Any advice in relation to the disease would be appreciated. I give my dog Benadryl 8mg twice a day, they last 8 hours the tablets, these control the itching due to the dust allergy. Is there anymore I can do for my dog? I give my dog Zylkene tablets, these stop her from self harming due to her past anxiety.

Question by tarra: What food to buy for my German Shepherd, she has Malassezia dermatitis.?
My rescue dog has Malassezia dermatitis, thankfully, she doesn’t have any underlying disease with it like thyroid, diabetes. She does have an allergy to dust and is on pirton tablets. Due to being starved and beaten for 9 months of her life her coat was in poor condition with skin lesions, hair loss and a horrible mousey smell.

I researched the condition as much as I could and tried her on a raw food diet with brown rice, however she lost too much weight. So I switched to Jameswellbeloved with Bozita canned food.

Is there such a thing as a dry dog food, that is free of diary, soya, wheat, gluten, sugar? As these ingredients feed the yeast. My dog seems to prefer dry food mixed with canned meat.

Her coat has recovered from the damage done to it and I want to maintain it. She has new hair growth. She does itch but I suspect it’s due to the dust allergy.

Any other advice, suggestions on what food I can give her would be gratefully received. I live in the UK.
I forgot to say that I have the yeast infection under control and now bath my dog every 2/3 weeks in the Malaseb shampoo.

I know dogs aren’t vegeterians but at the same time I want to feed my dog good quality food without the nasty things in and want to avoid giving her foods with ingredients in that will feed the yeast in her gut.

My dog doesn’t have a food allergy, it is the ingredients I have to watch out for so I am not upsetting the good flora in her gut.

Thanks for your answers sofar.

Check with your Vet. By the way dogs are not vegetarians.

Question by crzycoookies: To those who had a dog with severe malassezia pachydermatis(Skin yeast infection..)?
When my vet said my dog had flea allergies, she also said that he had a yeast infection, though didn’t help me out much with what to give him. She just said antifungal meds.. Is there any kind of human pills that can help, and maybe shampoo? I’ve read that there are certain things that help, but I’ve only been able to find it in a brand of dandruff shampoo. I can’t use creams because he’s got it damn near all over his body. So, any one got some suggestions for shampoo and oral medications? I know of one little ’set’ I can buy online, but I can’t afford that.

My Basset Hound has this problem. His vet isn’t sure exactly what he’s allergic to, but it does only occur in the summer months. When Woody (My Basset Hound) gets a skin infection, we give him some Human benedryl. You will need to run this by your vet though, because you can’t give your dog too much, it goes based on the size of the dog. But Benedryl has really helped Woody. Also he gets a cream from the vet.
