Question by Snoopy: My dog has these sores/scabs on his back, legs and neck. He is a mini schnauzer.?
My dog has dime, quarter and pencil eraser sized spots on his back; we have also found them on his sides and legs.
They puss, scab and the skin falls off.

* I am wondering what they could be and what I could do to help him?

He itches them after they start.
We live in Utah and have been in Texas for 2 months (they started in Texas, right after we got here and have just gotten worse!)
I have multiple fleas on him (there are not fleas in Utah)
I have applied Frontline monthly, we bathe him in flea and tick shampoo.. and have had to cut his hair ridiculously short to try to keep the fleas off of him. (which helps a little).
We have tried:
Bathing, Frontline, Adams plus fleas & tick mist, both on him and the house.
Took him to the vet when it first started (new vet).

I am just not sure were to go from here. We are due to go back to Utah this week and will see the vet when we get there, but until then I just need a little help.

* Could it be flea allergies? If it is can you recommend something to keep them off of him?

* Do I need to worry about taking fleas home with me?
We travel in a travel trailer.

Question by pinkrainstarz: hi all, i have a mini pinscher. she has allergies of some sort.?
we are thinking food. i have had her to the vet numerous times. they give her steroids, which helped at first but no longer do. she has huge sores under her arms and legs and also around her mouth. she itches all the time, almost to the point where its driver her crazy. she paces and cant stand to be touched and cries the whole time. i have tried benedryl, hydrocordisone cream, bag balm, sulfadene, a and d ointment, triple anitbiotic cream and anything else i could possibley think off. i have given her the dog pills for skin and coat and nothing is helping. i also put her on a rice, potato, green bean, carrot diet. i have read that its mostly protines that they are allergic to. its says it wont show for 21 days. its been a week so far and nothing. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions that may help. she is my baby and it kills me to see her in so much agony. i am afraid of having to put her down because she is sooooo miserable. pleas help us. thank you so much

Has the vet done a complete workup? These symptoms may not be a result of allergies but another medical condition such as diabetes? (My friend’s cat had similar problems.)

I am concerned about the diet you are feeding your dog. It is not nutritionally sound. Also, it may be allergic to these ingredients. You are partially correct that it is “proteins” that cause reactions. However, all foods, including grains and vegetables/fruits are made up of proteins which is not the same as meat proteins.
