Believe it or not, dogs/puppies can get a type of acne. It is called puppy pyoderma. A trip to the vet is good just to make sure though.

Question by NewEra: My lab mix 9 month old puppy is itching and losing hair with bumps on him?
He’s a lab mix, not sure what else he has in him. We got him when he was about 5 months old, he had thinner hair around his eyes then and his hair wasn’t really thick but it didn’t look bad. Over time he’s lost more and more hair, especially around his eyes, under his arm pits, and on the inside of his back legs. In the past few days we’ve noticed he’s losing a lot of hair on his chest now too, and more on his head/face and he’s getting bumps all over almost like hives on the side of his leg…

I brought him to the vet about a month ago, they did a skin scrape and said it wasn’t mange or anything. The vet said she wasn’t sure what it could be, so she adviced me to upgrade my dog food to Nature’s Variety. I did so, and for weeks i’ve been feeding him that so I wouldn’t think it could be an allergy could it? Unless a dog can adapt and BECOME allergic to a dog food?

He’s also been itching a lot today, and biting himself as if it’s itching/irritating him today. I gave him his flea medicine (frontline) but I’m not sure if it could be something to do with fleas? I’m thinking it might be fleas or an allergy? Anyone have any ideas? I plan on bringing him to the vet, but was hoping i could try changing his diet first and see if there is an improvement.
He really started to get bad the past few days. I’ve had him on this dog food for weeks now.

It sounds like an allergy. It could be something in your house. Do you have carpets? Or, strange as it sounds, the dog could be allergic to itself. Highly unlikely but it does happen. My boyfriend’s dog was. She had to get shots on a regular basis to stay comfortable.

8 month old puppy with diarrhoea?

Question by Aracaini: 8 month old puppy with diarrhoea?
Kai (puppy) woke me up in the night and currently now because he needed the loo, both times he had diarrhoea. He seems lively enough in himself, hes already barking XD I know that I must starve him for 24 hr then feed him bits of rice, gradually mixing with normal dog food. Is there anything I can give him in the meantime to ease the diarrhoea, our vet doesn’t open till 8am its 7am here. I have read that you can give a puppy imodium but I’m not sure how many and if it has to be the tablet form, as I only have imodium instants on hand.

Also this has happened before, I own a holiday home in an area where the water is classed as hard yet where I live its classed as soft, could this be affecting him? We went yesterday, if so I will have to keep some bottled water there for him

Heres some more info on Kai. He’s a 8 month and 3 week old rough collie puppy weight last time at the vets at 13.5kg. Known allergies are shellfish, any form of lamb meat. Not sure how helpful the last part is. He’s a digger and likes chewing on sticks. He’s currently on BETA puppy food, but lately we have been mixing it with butchers canned wet food, so thats another thing that might have to stop

Anyway sorry for typing so much, any help will be appreciated, thankyou.
Hi, thanx for your reply, we did ask pur vet about changing the puppy food over they said it was ok as long as we did it a bit at a time, we’ve been doing it for about 5 days now

I would just give him just hard solid food only, and also stick to one food do NOT keep changing foods its really bad for them, stick to a solid food and dont ever change it, i give my dog beneful, when i used to give her canned wet food she used to get really sick so now its just solid food and shes fine, she could just be sick and you really should just wait it out, but just start giving your dog a solid food and stick to that for the rest of the dogs life or it could die!…

Q&A: I just adopted an 8 month old pit bull?

Question by ~Proud Mama of 3~: I just adopted an 8 month old pit bull?
Who need I say is the sweetest dog in the world!! She loves my kids and is soo gentle!! The lady who we adopted her from said she had gotten into some insulation….so now she has a bald spot on the top of her back *the hair is growing back* and on her side. Under her neck is red and missing hair. I however think its due to food allergy. She is blue and white and pit bulls are prone to skin allergies anyways. I switched her food to nutro lamb and rice………….is there anything else I can do???

17 month old with ezcema?

Question by KristinK: 17 month old with ezcema?
My 17 month old has had ezcema since at least 2 months old. She was breastfed exclusively for 1 year. I have tried everything from different lotions, soaps, detergents, cutting out foods and nothing has helped.
She does have food allergies which include eggs, dairy, fish & peanuts. She is also allergic to cats and dogs. We had her allergy tested 2 months to find these things out. However, even before she was tested, I already knew that she was allergic to these things so she has NOT been getting any of those food items listed above for a long time now. Wheat and Soy showed up borderline on her allergy testing, so I cut those two items out of her diet for 1 month and I saw NO change in her skin condition. The allergist told us to get new carpet in our house because the previous owners did have a dog, but we got a quote and it was $ 6,500 and who knows if that would even help her.

I am lost now and I feel as though the allergist was NO help at all. I am wondering if I need a second opinion? As a mother, I just feel horrible. My poor daughter scratches all day long. She is still a happy child, but I really want to find the underlying cause of her ezcema.

Does anyone else have this issue with their child or any have any remedies that helped them?
Thanks for the information. I have tried many prescription cremes and they do work, but only for a VERY short time period. Those cremes are not good to use on a long term basis. I do use the unscented dove soap and Eucerin creme, but it doesn’t really seem to help at all. My mother-in-law told me about the cod liver oil. I will try that.

I have eczema, my father has eczema and my daughter has a little bit on her thigh. Some babies just have it, IMO. I use 1% hydrocortizone cream on her leg and it clears up.

Do you live in a dry climate? Where we live now, my eczema acts up a lot more than when I live in the northeast because it is soooo dry here.
