Question by sayswho?: my dog licks his paws SO MUCH he cant walk on them! advice? suggestions? causes? anything?
i have a 6 year old havanese who licks his paws constantly and so deeply that he can’t walk on them for hours afterwards. he does it with such intesity that he pants and his paws are all red.

we’ve taken him to a vet a few times for this but nothing theyve done has really helped. we use all natural cleansers on our floors so i doubt its anything he’s walking on. one vet said it could be food allergies so we’ve switched brands more than a few times but nothings helped. the topical solutions dont do much at all. it’s not a seasonal allergy either.

anyone have any advice or tips? any holistic or home remedies to relieve this itching?

thanks in advance.

Question by sunny: My 2 1/2 yr old mixed breed dog recently is getting big very itchy bumps he scratches so much. They are on his
They are on his side and mostly on his back. They are “clustered” maybe 6-8. He scratches them and they bleed. I have given him medicated baths, put anti-biotic cream, hydrocortizone cream, which brings some relief but they dont go away. Has anyone had this happen to their dog?
I have changed his dog food thinking it may be an allergy. He comes back in the house like that when he goes out to use the bathroom or just “hang out” in the yard. He doesnt get it from being in the house, only when he comes back in from outside. It isn’t ticks or fleas. If they were ticks I would see them would’t I and be able to “pull them off”? And fleas, I would be able to see them. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

Take him to the vet. It’s probably an allergy.

Question by Spicey: Can I give a dog Benadryl for an allergic reaction? How much per # of dog?
I have a very fair skinned, standard Poodle pup who I suspect may have some allergies. I’m wondering if in case she were to have a severe reaction, if I can give her Benadryl or another antihistimine, and how much per pound of dog? I can’t find a Merck’s for Dogs anywhere.

If you suspect allergies, take her to the veterinarian and find out for sure. You may be able to remove the allergen from her environment and thus she’ll be safe, healthy and comfortable without medication.

Home remedies only go so far, and you still need an accurate diagnosis to use them.

Question by truely_blonde_2003: Anyone know much about Bichons and hot spots?
My Bichon keeps getting hot spots and scratching. I’ve tried mild shampoos and ointments. Someone suggested steroid injections, but I don’t want to try that route. Some one else said it’s food allergies Any one else have this problem and a solution ?He’s a rescued dog so I don’t know his history, but the way he runs when he sees a can or spray, or tube of ointment indicates he’s had this problem in the past..
