Question by Dear Prudence: Is it okay to use Dr. Bronner’s castile soap to wash the dog?
I love Dr. Bronner’s liquid castile soap! I have very sensitive skin and allergies and since I switched to this soap I have noticed a tremendous improvement in my “itch factor”.

Dr. Bronner’s make an unscented formula for babies… wonder if it would be okay to use on my shih tzu. Any opinions or experience?
I have only used this product as a body wash. This evening, I washed my hair and face with it to see how it may feel for the dog. I don’t like the way it left my hair. It felt strip after I rinsed… almost too clean. Perhaps it strips oils from the hair?? At any rate, the peppermint is my flavor of choice and when I washed my face the soap actually burned my eyes even with my eyes closed! It was actually more of a tingling sensation from the peppermint than it was a burn.

Just thought I’d share my experiment on myself. Not sure if I will try it next on Rover…..

Question by snowyniner: Is Innova EVO red meat dry dog food okay for puppies?
Is it suitable to feed this dog food to my four month old golden retriever puppy? I switched him from Healthwise to the EVO food since it has no grains. However I have read that the high protein and calcium content may make it suitable for adult dogs only, particularly in the case of large breeds. I would like to keep him on this food since his skin allergies have cleared up and he loves it. Also his hair is looking so much better. But if is really bad for him I will switch him to Innova EVO large breed puppy dry dog food. I just want to see what the general opinion is on this dog food since I have no experience with this.

The kibbles are very small…..
The protein in EVO red meat is to high for a golden puppy. He might not tolerate it very well.
Just stay with the puppy food for now and then switch when he is like a year old.

Good luck….

Q&A: Is it okay to feed my dog cat food?

Question by Karen U: Is it okay to feed my dog cat food?
I know, strange question, why would I do that. I have a cat and a 14 pound 13 year old Pomerainian and an 80 pound lab. My lab has huge allergy problems and is on a special diet. I had to put the Pom on the same food because they would keep eating out of each others bowls. And then for some reason, the palm decided she didn’t want to eat the labs food any more. The morsels are kind of small but not as small as “small bites” dog food.

I haven’t bought my Pom her own bag of food in some time because she had been eating out of my labs dish already anyway but I’ve noticed, since I started putting the same food in her bowl as I put in my labs bowl, she’s decided she doesn’t want to eat it any more.

I know the Pom is hungry but she’s stubborn. I feel bad and didn’t have anything small enough for her except Cat Food. And when I put it down for her, she ate it up. I don’t know if it’s because it’s just different, or if it’s small enough bites that it’s easier for her to eat. She is old and her teeth are not the best. (she came here when my mother in law passed away and my father in law moved in with us. she’s technically not my dog although I do everything for her)

So, is it okay to feed a dog cat food? My father in law feeds this dog anything and everything from the table already so I know she’s got a strong stomach for different foods but I don’t know if the ingredients would be any different.

I feed my cat Purina One dry food for indoor, older cats.

My dog also has a skin allergy, and at petsmart they have a great shampoo that has really helped!!! I forget what its called but it has almond oil in it and smells great, leaves fur soft and really helped with my dogs coat problems.

And you could also try changing food from anything made with chicken ( shown to increase skin allergies due to what they eat ) to something made with lamb or beef.

I know my dog does the same thing as yours w/ the licking and if the no chew stuff works on your dog try putting some on his paws >>>unfortunately mine likes the taste! ! !

hope i helped :-)
