I brought my dog to the vet 4 weeks ago to try and figure out houw to fix my dogs chewing of her paws and tail region. He first advised to try Benadryl (a few months ago) and that didn’t help so we made an appointment. Since she isn’t too bad off (compared to other dogs and allergies) we decided to start with food trials. She has been eating Purina HA (hypoallergenic) formula for the last four weeks and I haven’t seen any sign of improvement.
Allergy testing is our next step, but I just want to make sure we are giving it the full amount of time to clear up if it a food allergy. Has anyone else gone through this with their dog? The vet said to try this for 6-8 weeks. Did it take that long for you to notice a difference? Or was it faster?
Just looking for previous experiences with this. Thanks!

Other allergies like grass, dust etc. and is the only way to find out by doing expensive allergy testing? Everytime I take him to the vet he gives me antibiotics and a topical spray. He also has a skin problem. I am now trying a different expensive dry dog food only FISH with NO GRAIN to see if that will help him at all.
