Question by Poodles4ever: Had to take all the chew bones away….gave the kong…fun ideas for the kong please (no peanut butter)?
fun Ideas for the kong….no peanut butter
As you probably know Sasha has had a bit of skin irratation on her muzzle…..we discovered the cause last night…..its the way she holds her chew bones….They always rub up against that spot. So atleast until she is healed up she can’t have a bone to chew (whether it be a bone or a chew)
We basically filled up a kong with Ice cubes last night and that has given her lots to do….(there is nothing she loves more than ice) and I think the cold from the ice also helped her irratation because this morning its looking a little better….
It looks like the Kong is going to have to be her toy of choice (atleast for a while) what other fun ideas do you have for the kong….
They can’t include Peanut butter….(we don’t bring it in the house due to my severe allergies)
We heard fat free plain yougurt is okay to put in there and freeze with some kibble….
She is a dog that has to be kept occupied when we can’t give her our complete attention……
Bones were kind of her pacifier……but when paci starts to hurt you paci goes bye bye…..or so we told her.
Thanks she is a chewer and loves to chew but we noticed she doesn’t chew on the rubber toys or much less touch them….honestly her first interest in the Kong was last night with the ice in it and we used to stick treats in it (and back then she could care less)

You can try to buy Pea butter at a health food store. It’s made from peas, not peanuts, but taste very similar. There are other nut butters as well you can try.

Question by Dear Prudence: VETS & TECHS please HELP? My dog has elevated WBC.?
My lhasa (vets says 6 yrs old; rescued him 4 yrs ago) had bloodwork & showed slightly elevated WBC. All else ok per vet. Hes usually active & playful, but sometimes suspect he doesn’t feel well. Have blamed that on allergies; sneezes a lot & nose runs of clear water. Old allergy test showed some + to grasses. Never cough or fever. On 5mg zyrtec qd for allergy relief. Has VERY bulgey eyes that run constantly; perhaps contributing to nose drip.
Has occassional limp up front. Vet says prob arthritis given poor conformation. He’s on cosequin & Carprofen 12.5 mg qd. Vet does anal glands every 6 wks. He’s well groomed & clean. Skin and coat healthy but skin often pink in color.
Ears healthy. Potty normal (some mucousy stools). Food & water intake normal. Teeth & gums healthy. Neg for hot spots & dry eye. Excercise daily. Canidae food.
1. Should I be concerned about the WBC & what should I do? Vet says to watch him closely!
2. Should I have front legs imaged?
$ no issue

I would just continue to follow your vet’s advice. You should just monitor your dog for any decline in health. If he has allergies, that may contribute to the elevation in WBC (although you don’t mention if there is a rise in one particular one or if they are all elevated). If the vet isn’t too worried, then I wouldn’t be either. As far as getting rads in the front, again, if the vet isn’t worried, I wouldn’t be either! Good Luck!

Question by animal lover 156: what could be wrong with my dog, have asked questions before, please help, dont’ know whats wrong, or vet?
my dog has had bald patches on her back, she has been tested for mange, ring worm, etc.. in parasites she tested for all internal parasites and external parasites.
they have cleared up, but now ALL her fur except on her neck and face, and feet is shorter, dry and thinned out.
she has half the ampunt of fur as she used to have her fur is thin and her skin is dry and flakey.
whats wrong
she has had special shampoo, she has to be bathed in it weekly its called ‘malaseb shampoo’ she has had 2 types of tablets but not working so she hasn’t got them anymore.
she is only 4, she is a staffordshire bull terrier, white with black spots, has had allergies all her life and as normal every year she gets ‘hives’ (lumps on her body, normal for her, gets them every year in summer’ but we don’t know whats wrong she had a vet appointment and they gave us a new bottle of malaseb shampoo and carry on using it weekly.
we have been using it for about a month already, she has also have some cream for when she has the sores from the skin scraping, but this shampoo is for the dry skin but what about the fur loss?
please help, she seems not in pain and her normal self, a sleepy, but jumpy when someone comes in, LOL, been like it all her life, still like a little baby and i don’t want it to get worse.
please help

Question by Hana: My dog is always biting and itching but doesnt have fleas!?! please help!?
my dog is a 10 month shih tzu and he recently went into a vet check up and they gave us some medication for him and he started to do better. but after he stopped taking it he started to itch alot. the doctor said it was allergies to food, or outside allergies. he currently eats benefit for pups and we bathe him every 2 weeks. when i tried looking for the fleas or ticks, all i find are little black critters but no eggs. he recently got worst since i look him outside to use the bathroom and i think a bug bite him? because he started to run out of the grass and itch himself.
i also heard that it that it could be dried skin? if so what shampoo should i change to? im currently using hartz ultraguard and top paw bright and brilliant whitening conditioner.
im thinking about changing his dog food, shampoo and getting flea treatment just in case but looking for other opinions!

Question by Tiffany: Wife vs dog. Help please?
My husband and I have been married for almost a year now and we got a puppy 5 months into our marriage. The puppy is now six months old a alot bigger. She is over 50 lbs. She is a lab, husky, shephard mix. He is always trying to let me let her on the brand new couch we bought and he tells her how smart she is and what a good gi she is even if she does something bad. He was trying to get her to sleep in our bed too and I have told him a million times how uncomfortable this makes me because I am allergic to her. I break out it hives when her fur rubs my bare skin and the dander from her fur sets off my allergies. She sheds like crazy so that doesnt help the allergy thing at all, but he just doesnt get why I don’t want her on the couch and hogging the bed. Plus she always digs in our yard so se is constantly filthy. Help me figure out how to get him to understand?

There are allergy medincines out there for you to take.
And grab the dogs collar, when its on the couch, pull her down and then if she tries getting back up say NO, no matter what ur husband says.
Say with the bed, close your door.
Also when she digs go out there and say NO very fimrly and when she does it again touch her backside with your pointer finger and say NO!
If she still does it then you might have to walk her around your backyard to have her go her bussiness without digging.
Good Luck!
