Question by Jenn: Wellness- Super 5 Mix- Fish and Potato stool question?
This has been the first food that my dog has done well on. But with that being said her stool is SO big and thick and she goes quite a bit and at times loose. I want to change her food because she can go up to 4x’s a day if she is running in the backyard (and its really loose then) and the stinky smell is all in her whiskers (despite how many times I wash it). She is a toy dog what weighs about 12 pounds (has gained weight on this food too). Aren’t the better dog food supposed to have “less stool? ”
She tried high protein foods like Core (then developed crystals in her urine)…Natural foods like Solid Gold…Natural Balance but spit them out. All the really good foods appear to be high protein and I think they are going to be too rich for her. She also has slight allergies too. I thought about Wellness Lamb and Rice but worried it maybe too much. Any thoughts from experience would be appreciated. Thanks
Oh she’s not fat by any means. She was actually too skinny and the Wellness chunked her up a bit!

Switch her to a raw prey-model diet. Best way to feed a dog right there. Done.

What are some grain and potato free dog foods?

Question by Jenny: What are some grain and potato free dog foods?
I like to change my dog’s food often, after every bag. I like her to have a variety of foods because I don’t want her to develop any allergies. I always feed grain free but a lot of grain free foods have a lot of potato in it. I really don’t want my dog eating so much potato every day. The only brands that I know of that are grain free and potato free are Nutrisca (chickpea based) and Great Life (tapioca based). I know I can feed a homemade raw diet, and I am planning on eventually switching. But until I switch can anyone recommend any other grain and potato free foods? Thanks!
Thanks, but yeah Nature’s recipe is high in potato.

Question by mosley88: Has anyone been having recent problems with Natural Balance Duck and Potato dog food?
I gradually switched my lab to it about a month ago trying to solve some skin allergy problems. He did great on the first bag (17 lbs) so i bought a 30 lb. bag. A couple days into this bag he lost all energy and wasn’t interested in eating it at all. He just slept all day and acted ill. He even puked once. Anyone having similar issues?

Question by Genie: What is a good alternative to the Natural Balance Duck and Potato allergy formula dog food?
After almost three years of pedigree my dog seems to have developed food allergies.
I’m not sure what he is allergic to because apparently the vet I take him to sucks, and is
Only interested in charging up bills and selling me stuff. I am currently looking for a new vet,
But in the meantime was feeding him what that vet recommended which is natural balance
Duck and potato formula. My dog would not eat it, he started to lose a lot of weight, so I went
In search of an alternative. Tried blue buffalo, it made his stool very loose and smelle terribly
And he had horrible gas. Tried bil jac, his stool is still very loose and it has gotten to the point where
He won’t eat it anymore because I think all it does is upset his stomach. He is losing a lot of weight
I am extremely worried and desperate, and would appreciate any help I can get. I don’t want to lose
My best friend please help me.
He hasn’t completely lost his appetite. The vet assured me its allergies, but hasn’t tested to find out what he is allergic to.
I have introduced him in the proper way and given the food enough time after completely introducing, as in finished the whole bag, with the same result. He was doing well on the duck and potato, but would only eat a small amount, usually when he was starving and had no other choice, like he is doing now.
Oh, and Kelsey I am also in the process of finding a better vet to get a second opinion wether its allergies or not. I’m so worried, I really hope its nothing terrible. :(
