My 8yr dog wont go potty in the yard!?

Question by judy o: My 8yr dog wont go potty in the yard!?
I adopted 8yr old dog that owners said did not like walks because her legs couldnt keep up they would have to carry her home. She went in there yard. I started walking her from day one 3x a day and she loves them. Sometimes when longer or really hot she will take a break and lay down for a minute but that does not stop her from getting excited when I get the chain and bag out. My husband reminded me that in a short time we will be in the frozen tundra and I wont want to take her for 3 walks a day getting her all sloppy so I am trying to get her to go in the yard but she wont. She will hold it forever! Right now she has been out every 1/2 hour (more work for me than taking her for that walk) and its been I kid you not 19 hours since she went. Shes a shizu and I cant bathe her every day come winter. Its not good for her skin (she has allergies and it would not be good) Im trying to play with her to get thing moving simulating a walk with no luck. She also wont go out in the rain.

You know that little bag you take with you on the walks…I’m guessing that you are cleaning up after her as you go??…
If so… find the area you want her to go at in the yard and place her “leftovers” from your bag there. She will realize it is “hers” (by scent) and that is acceptable to “go” in that area.

good luck!

Question by Michey: My dog is going potty in the house suddenly after…..(warning: a bit long)?
So about 2 months ago I adopted a 9 year old Min Pin. She was adjusting well and took to me and my boyfriend like glue. We never had any problems with her she has actually been the best dog. The previous owner told me she was crate trained and was used to sleeping in a crate from 7am – 3pm, well my hours are much less then that, but when I put her in the crate she fought like crazy and the entire 3 hours she was in there my neighbors told me she was shrieking none stop. So I tried leaving her out of the crate and she did fine no crying, no destruction, and no accidents.

The last week give or take a few days she has three accidents that I found one poop was all over my living rooms and yesterday she peed on my shirt. The other accident I do not think I can blame on her she got into my birds seeds and was not feeling well and her schedule was messed up but was after the first accident. I take her out at 8 am my boyfriend takes her out at 11am and 2pm I come home at 5pm and she gets about a 30-45 min walk and then depending on the weather we go out at 7pm and 9pm this is herschedule every day she eats at 10:15am and 8:15pm her food is homemade from a vet recipe reccomendation due to food allergies and takes prescibed vitamins. I also hae a 10 month old puppy who is crated but they are out together when some one is home both dogs play and get exercise.

It is not jealousy of having the other dog around because she came from a house with another dog and a baby and her and my dog hang around each other and play and sleep together. I just took her to the vet and they said everything was normal (this was after the bird seed chow down). Could it just be her old age? Or is it something else? I also do not think its terretorial because she keeps hiding the messes she is making. She is also confind with baby gate to the livingroom when and nothing is on the floor or in hear reach except dog toys, her crate, and her bed.

she might have a urine infection or week bladder control due to her age take her to the vet if it continues
its only an accident nothing to do with eexerciseor other dogs . perhaps she isn’t trained properly

Question by lovinyamtyeknwy: My potty trained Beagle has been acting out and pooping on the floor….HELP!?
I’m very pregnant and in the past month or so, my Beagle has been pooping on the floor in the middle of the night. I have 3 dogs and I know it is her because she has had other problems and has very bad food allergies. She has a dog door that she can go out, and we’ve had her for 2 years and she’s never deliberately pooped on the floor. The other night we were watching a movie and she squatted right in front of the TV to pee. I don’t understand why she is behaving like this. I love her to death, but with the baby coming anyday I am not going to be able to deal with her behavior. It’s getting to the point where I’m going to have to give her away, and the idea breaks my heart. HELP PLEASE!?!?!?!?!
She isn’t pregnant because I got her fixed a few months ago. She’s only 2 years old so I dont think she’s getting too old. She uses the dog door all the time….she runs out it to bark at the neighbors dogs and she doesnt poop on the floor during the day, only at night. I’ve had plenty of blood tests run on her, thats how we figured out that she had food allergies, and she is on special vet approved dog food. Kidney failure would result in peeing on the floor wouldn’t it? And it doesnt make sense why she’d be afraid of the dog door when she is perfectly capable of going outside during the day.
