Question about my puppys allergy?

Question by jAKESGiRl*: Question about my puppys allergy?
I just recently adopted a blue gotti/edge pitbull. She is 13 wks old. Really a gorgeous dog but she has really bloodshot eyes with CLEAR gooky stuff coming out it forms a crust around her poor little eyelids. Also around her snout, she is bald and her skin is kind of rough. It is nowhere else but her face and she isn’t missing much hair. It doesn’t bother her and she has no funky odor it just WON’T go away. The man that gave her to me said that it is hay allergies and that it would clear up by keeping her inside and away from hay and grass. I take warm cloths and clean her eyes for it only to return moments after. I haven’t brought her to the vet YET because my
Expenses are strapped and I wanted to see if there was any at home remedies or anything I can do before I rush off to the vet. She is updated on all shots and vaccines and we live in a clean home and is not allowed outside without supervision. I’m just worried the hair won’t grow back and that if her eyes don’t clear up, it may lead to health problems?

This is an issue for the vet. This is probably caused by the backyard breeder you purchased her from. Breeders like that dont care for health testing their animals, and only selfishly contribute to the overpopulation of dogs in this world, especially pits.

Question about dog food?

Question by ??~? ME ?~??: Question about dog food?
I have two Shih Tzu’s currently eating Pro Plan Lamb & Rice dry food. I used to feed it to them mixed with canned food, but weaned them off of the canned stuff about 2 weeks ago, which has helped with harder poops and what not. One of my dogs has constant itching on her back and stomach, and I don’t know what the problem is. She has seen the vet who suggested it’s just seasonal allergies (no scabies or anything, they did a test). I think it has something to do with the food.

I’m wondering if it’s the grains in the food. I am thinking about switching them to a grain free food like Blue Wilderness or Wellness Core, but am wondering if cutting out grains would be a shock to their system… I’ll switch gradually by mixing, but I wanted to check to see if getting a grain free food is really worth the extra cost. And I’m also wondering what type to get… Chicken products seem to give her the runs, so was wondering if I should get salmon or duck? I imagine the salmon would be better for her skin? I’m so paranoid that she won’t like the fish food and I’ll waste my money on it…

Sorry for all the questions, I’m just trying to find the right food for my dogs without breaking the bank in the process! If you can recommend a food that isn’t crazy expensive, please do so! Thanks!

Question about vaccines for a dog?

Question by ????????????3: Question about vaccines for a dog?
We adopted a dog in September of last year and at that time she had received all of her vaccines. The cost of her adoption was $ 85 and I have spent so much more due to her issues with mange, food allergies, anal gland impactions, heartworm preventative, flea and tick meds, etc. Her vaccinations needed to be redone at the end of June and I couldn’t afford to pay over $ 150 to have it done.

I have recently discovered that our local humane society will do all of her needed vaccinations and test her for heartworms for only $ 50. They also provide the paperwork showing that she is current on her vaccinations. My question is this, if I take her to the humane society and take her paperwork to her veterinarian showing that she had them done somewhere else, will they look at me different? I feel weird doing this since I am at the vet’s office almost every month for something and I feel like I am going behind their backs.

No. They will not see you differently, It is not their job to judge where you get your dog vaccinated as long as it is done. If you need to get it done at the humane society to save the money, so be it.

Question by ?proud mommy of 3, TTC #4?: To have a fish or not to have a fish…that is the question? :) ?
My 4 1/2 year old daughter has very severe pet allergies to just about everything with fur and skin (LOL). We do have a black lab but he is strictly and outside dog so he doesn’t affect her allergies. She is beginning to understand that she can’t be around cats and dogs and other “normal’ pets kids have. She really loves animals though and lately she has been asking for a pet fish. My only concern is that she is too young to really care for something like that which means I will have the duties of cleaning that nasty tank and etc (I’ve had fish before and HATED cleaning the tank!) I have 2 other younger children besides her so I just don’t know if I want or need that extra chore to do. I also feel bad though for my daughter because she so badly wants a pet…what would you do in my situation? Fish or no fish?

question regarding medication for animals?

Question by cody: question regarding medication for animals?
I have a Sheltie dog. Shelties are noted for skin problems. Mine has an Allergy. He gets the same rash in the same places at least 4 to 5 times a year. Every time he gets it, I take him to the Vet, and is charged about $ 100 for him to look at the rash and then give him the pills. Same rash, same pills. I am wondering if there is some way I can get the medication without going to the Vet. They aren’t like people Dr’s, and give refills. If you know of a reliable place to get the medication, Please let me know. Thanks

No. If you have questions ask your vet. Giving your animal meds, not under a vet’s directions could killl your animal
