Question by Michey: Infamous dog food question? Need some advice (a little Long)?
Ok so I have two dogs one is 1.5 years old she is currently and has been on TOTW for over 8 months now for the first 6 months she did great but I have noticed she has more frequent diarrhea. Now before you say anything I have taken her to the vet done fecal, urinalysis, blood work and even scope work she just has a sensitive stomach probably due to grain/grass allergies.
My younger pup is about 7 months now and he came from the Humane Society and they told me he also has grain allergies. I have him on professionals because that is the grain-free food the Humane Society had him on and I did not want to switch him until her was atleast 6 months old but he too has had diarrhea problems.
I usually give them canned pure pumpkin in place of food at first sign of diarrhea and it solids their stool up in a few hours if that. Unfortunately pumpkin was in shortage last year and it is really hard to find canned pumpkin so I resorted to using sweet potato but it doesn’t work as well.
I heard natural balance has a good sensitive tummy grain free formula but I wanted to get some other dog lovers opinions. Also they both have bad breath again took them to the vet other then allergies they are both in good health.
Oh when the get diarrhea they act fine play, eat, drink and sleep like normal just watery or soft stool and can’t control when they got to go I am sure you know how it is but I would like to make this less frequent if possible.
No wet only kibble.
I tried raw diet but it did not agree with my older dog at all she does much better on kibble.
I am looking for a grain free for sensitive tummies.

Well TOTW is already grain free … so you’re looking for other grain free foods?
Orijen, Wellness CORE, Evo, yes Nat Balance has a grain free line. Instinct, Before Grain… all great grain free foods. Canidae has a new grain free line too.
You’re already doing the pumpkin … do you feed wet food or just kibble? If you feed wet food and the diarreah is really just soft stool, not watery – then increase the ratio of dry food over wet and that could stop it.
