Question by dawn b: contagious rash?
I have had a rash that is spreading all over my body for a few days now it is really itchy no pain I went to the dr with my mom yesterday and her allergy dr told me that it was something my skin had came in contact with she gave me some lotion and told me to buy aveeno body wash and aveeno lotion and take benedryl. I did change detergents about a week ago i thought that may be it or maybe my dogs came in contact with poison ivy but my husband is not allergic to poison ivy and he is now getting the rash. What could it be. Please help. I did change my detergent back to the old stuff I always used to . Seriously itchy person.
i washed everything in my old detergent and the rash started in the crease behind my knee and spread to the other one then to the creases of my arms and then my neck and leg and back its kinda everywhere. now my hubby has them behid his knee and a spot on his chest

Question by Lilly: WHAT could be CAUSING my sons RASH?
He has had this red bumpy itchy rash on his entire body (except the face) since he was about 1 year old. He will be 3 in June. It comes & goes but it never completely disappears. Cutivate was prescribed, and it works, but when I stop, it re-appears. The ped. allergist took a blood test and it came back negative -except for eggs, which showed just a slightly positive sign of a possibe allergy, but not enough to say “he’s allergic to eggs” she still wants him back for a skin test to check for some other allergies.
He was on soy formula as a baby and at 1 yr old, I put him on a combination of reg cows milk and Silk soy vanilla milk. I stopped the soy milk about 6 months ago, so thats not the cause. He eats a regular kids/adults diet with the exception of fish. But nothing weird or exotic. We are Italian American and he basically eats a normal diet of pasta, beef, chicken, peanut butter, chocolate, eggs, potatoes, fruits, veggies, milk and apple juice. We have a dog but he tested negative for that. I always use free & clear detergent and soaps on him and his clothes.
Any ideas?
No, it couldnt be bed bugs, He still sleeps in a crib with a plastic mattress. Unless Bed Bugs can survive on a plastic mattress??? EWWW Anyway, I checked and see no sign of that. Whew!
Its not Eczema, although he has a mild case of that too. This is different.
And to clarify: Free & Clear is any detergent “free & clear” of perfumes & dyes.

Question by case: My dog has a bright red rash on her lower belly and inner hind legs. Advice?
My 4 year old female pit mix has a bright red rash on her lower belly and inner hind legs. The marks are completely symmetrical and spread to the crease of her back legs and kind of follows along that crease. It is BRIGHT red at times, and seems to subside temporarily at other times. There is no puss, blood, or broken skin, but it does seem that the skin is a bit raw as it continues to peel in those areas, like on humans after a sunburn.
I’ve never changed her food. I feel this may be the cause of the weather in Georgia, as her allergies (sneezing & dry skin) appear to flare up when we are here, and when we leave the state at summer time she seems fine.
It is not occuring any where that she has hair, and she is not losing hair anywhere. She doesn’t lick at it much, and I never see her scratching it. I’ve tried benadryl, hydrocortisone, and even a bit of skin so soft. It has slowly been spreading across her belly since we’ve gotten to Georgia in the fall. I will take her to the vet if necessary, but would like to try any possible home remedies first, as she doesn’t seem uncomfortable and the vets in my area are insanely expensive.
No, they are not spots. it is one solid area, and is not round.
I have already tried fungal creams at the request of a vet. Benadryl was ALSO at the request of a vet. I consult my vet before I give my dog anything.
Allergy shots may be just what she needs.

Are they round? If they are then that could be some kind of fungal infection like ringworm. You should bring her to the Vet to get it checked. Do NOT simply give human pills without consulting the Vet 1st. No, home remedies will not work if you don’t know what it is & what is causing it. Get medicine that is specifically to cure her skin problem at the Vet’s now before it gets even worse & spreads throughout her body. You will have to spend more money on her like that if you continue to let it get untreated by the doctor…

Question by hooru: my dog has a scabby rash that bleeds when you pick it?
It started out on his back and chest 4 months ago. We took him to the vet in September and she gave him a shot of cortisone and antibiotic. It got better for two weeks. Now it is all over his body and back with a vengeance. He scratches all the time till it bleeds. He has a peculiar smell. have been bathing him in hydrocortisone shampoo for dogs 4 times a week and use tea tree oil spray every day.
Any ideas on what it is? We had him on lamb and rice formula for 6 weeks to rule out food allergy.

Question by Isabelle: 4 year old has an itchy rash that looks like goosebumps?
Hi. My son has a persistent rash that looks just like goosebumps all over his torso and back. It’s not red or swollen – it just looks like goosebumps. I’ve taken him to the doc twice and they just said to give Zyrtec and Singulair, make sure to use soaps and detergents for sensitive skin, etc. I’ve done that. I even had him take a blood-allergy test, which was positive for mold and dogs (we have neither). He doesn’t seem to have a food allergy, although I do keep him away from milk. Other than that, he is very healthy and has no issues. What could be causing it and how can we make it go away? It bothers him a lot, especially in the hot months (we’re in Florida where it’s very hot and humid). I’ve tried the spray-on Benadryl, powder with menthol, Aveeno, Cetaphil lotion, natural soaps, etc. I removed the curtains in his room, had the floors steam cleaned, put an allergen cover on his bed and pillows. I honestly do not know what else to do. HELP!
