What’s wrong with my dog? Please Read.?

Question by Queen E: What’s wrong with my dog? Please Read.?
Hello everyone!
I have a 3 year old Maltese and I recently took her to
a dog spa for a haircut (i trust this place because she’s
gone there around 5-6 times now). Today when i got home
from class I noticed that she was itching a lot and licking
her paws and so on. I figured it was an itch so I brushed
her hair, in the process I noticed that she had open wounds
and others seemed like healed cuts. I started getting worried
and figured that the salon had something to do about it, but
my dog kept on scratching. I looked everywhere online and
the only answer I could find was ticks or fleas. I checked for
both, it got so bad I had to bathe my dog and I checked her again.
Later on I noticed that she’s the one hurting herself and biting
into her own skin. She’s done it all over her paws and in other
body places she can reach. I’m really worried as to why she’s doing
this. I had to bandage her feet and paws to keep her from biting
and wounding herself. Anyone have any answers for me?

Besides fleas, or anything.
I know it can be allergies but as far as I know
my dog is not allergic to anything.

Thanks for your help!
Best answer too.

Take her to the vet and have her tested for allergies. You can always spray bitter apple on her feet. My first dog had a habit of licking himself in one or two spots, so we sprayed it every time we found him licking. He’d quit for a long time, and find another spot. So we’d spray it. We realized it was just a bad habit he had.

Need some advice on my dog (please read full description)?

Question by jaded_illusions78: Need some advice on my dog (please read full description)?
I have a dog who has swollen areas on his skin not just in one area.

I believe this is due to either a different grass allergy, tick drops…especially tick drops.

I called my vet at 2 am in the morning and told me to try to wash with dawn soap a few times and I did this about 3 or 4 times very well. He is still in lots of discomfort and whining and crying so I took him INTO the vet at 3:30 am. He is on prednisone, benedryl and still gets some slight swellings and still whines in now alot! She believes this to be discomfort and so do I.

I called again today because he is whining alot still she prescribed him some tramadol to ease some discomfort. She noted that sometimes its takes 1-3 days to recover and that it can be very uncomfortable for the dog.

I also have him in a big dog collar (Elizabethan collar) aka cone collar so he doesn’t over lick to make matters worse…so he whines and still tries to get to the affected parts but cannot get to them.

My question is all this me just worrying too much because the whining really bothers me, the pacing bothers me, and I hate seeing my dog in pain? but is it really pain or just lots of discomfort due to not being able to get to those spots he wants to get at.

Do you think I am more over reacting to my dogs discomfort…given the time it will take for him to heal? I

What do you guys think?

please note the tick drops were on one area not the whole body and I washed his whole body just in case its more systemic.

Call your vet and get an antibodic shampoo it’s called Malaseb it will help with the discomfort also some. It might take a couple of bath’s but it will definitely help it did with my dog. Let it stay on him for a little while also at least 20 to 30 min. I hope your baby gets better

What’s wrong with my dog? (read details) ?

Question by Heretohelp: What’s wrong with my dog? (read details) ?
My dog is a 13 year old bichon poodle. She is very small and black. My dog is losing hair fast, she smells really bad, and she’s always scraching. I’ve taken her to two different vets, the first one said it was allergies so they did blood work and found out she was allergic to chicken (which was in her dog food) peas rice oatme and a few other things so we paid $ 200 to guy special needles that would help her digest the foods, even tho we stopped feeding her them. We stuck with the needles for a year and she kept getting worse so we took her to another vet and they said she need to be spayed (not sure what the proper term for her gender is) so we got that done, 18 weeks later still no change! Anyone know what’s wrong? I’m running out of money!! She doesn’t seem to be suffering so I don’t wanna put her down because shes a part of the family <3 Please help and thanks for your time (sorry it’s so long)

I suspect your dog has both a skin infection (with bacteria and possibly yeast) and allergies.

environmental allergens can cause symptoms like you describe. Dogs can be allergic to pollen, mold spores, dust mites, cockroaches, chemicals, detergents, cats, and even humans. Preventing exposure to these allergens can be difficult. Allergy testing is required to identify these allergies.

Once the skin is weakened by allergies, bacteria and yeast can proliferate exuberantly, leading to a skin infection with an unpleasant odor. Skin infections exacerbate itching and baldness.

Bacterial infections respond to antibiotics. Yeast infections can be diagnosed with a non-invasive test called skin cytology, and can be treated with anti-fungal agents. You should talk to your vet about an antibiotic trial and skin cytology.

I hoped it helped you a little bit:(

Question by Mandy: This is hilarous! Dog/cat lovers need to read this! :) ?
Its not a question but I just had to post it on here. This is a dogs diary and a cats diary:

EXCERPTS FROM A DOG’S DIARY
Day number 180
8:00 am – OH BOY! DOG FOOD! MY FAVORITE!
9:30 am – OH BOY! A CAR RIDE! MY FAVORITE!
9:40 am – OH BOY! A WALK! MY FAVORITE!
10:30 am – OH BOY! A CAR RIDE! MY FAVORITE!
11:30 am – OH BOY! DOG FOOD! MY FAVORITE!
12:00 noon – OH BOY! THE KIDS! MY FAVORITE!
1:00 pm – OH BOY! THE YARD! MY FAVORITE!
4:00 pm – OH BOY! THE KIDS! MY FAVORITE!
5:00 PM – OH BOY! DOG FOOD! MY FAVORITE!
5:30 PM – OH BOY! MOM! MY FAVORITE!

EXCERPTS FROM A CAT’S DIARY
DAY 752 – My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and, the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.

DAY 761 – Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair…must try this on their bed.

DAY 765 – Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was…Hmmm. Not working according to plan.

DAY 768 – I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called “shampoo.” What sick minds could invent such a liquid? My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.

DAY 771 – There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call “beer”. More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of “allergies.” Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 – I am convinced the other captives are flunkies, and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait; it is only a matter of time…
Tell me what you thought of it :)
I guess its only funny if you own a dog and a cat, sorry.
It was sent to me through email

Q&A: A MUST READ FOR ALL DOG OWNERS!?

Question by Alabama Girl: A MUST READ FOR ALL DOG OWNERS!?
I set out to do research to give my two dogs good food. I had like so many other people bought into the commercial brand foods like Purina, Eukanuba, and Pedigree. Well after doing research on the different brands i have found shocking truths about foods from grocery stores. Like putting dead dogs and cats that had been put to sleep with lethal injections and road kill animals along with MANY other terrible things that are put into our pets food that can kill them. I have also found out the 87% of dogs die due to bad commercial foods. Either by lack of nutrition, cancers, or other things that are in our pets foods. I am so glad that I found this info out and I will be throwing out my Purina food and go out and buy some Blue Buffalo since it is the best food I can find near me. I will be buying Blue Buffalo Senior since my Pom is 9 and my Dachshund is 7. My Dachshund had bad problems with skin allergies and now I have found out that it is due to bad food. I know that a lot of people don’t want to switch to a brand like Blue Buffalo because it is more money. But in all reality it isn’t. I did the research you can get a 30lb bag of Blue Buffalo Adult dog food for $ 42.99 and you can get a 8lb bag of Purina one adult dog food for $ 12.99 so if you bought 4 bags to make it up too 32lb since it wouldn’t add up too 30lb it would cost you $ 49.00. Blue Buffalo is roughfly the same price! Plus since you are feeding a better dog food you dog will not eat as much as he would normally. His coat will be shinier, his stool will be smaller, his breathe will be better. He will not die from chemicals and waste. I used to think that the people on here getting on to people telling them that their dogs food was crap was annoying but I want to thank them for that because it got me to want to check out why they were saying that. So everyone on here that says get off of the crappy food THANK YOU! And for a question can you give me success stories from your own dogs that have gained a better life from switching from a bad food to a good food?
