Burns fish and brown rice?

Question by Northern Sky Sunrise: Burns fish and brown rice?
Can someone please tell me if the Burns fish and rice dog biscuits are coloured (green, red etc), as i’m thinking of changing to burns but my dogs can’t tolerate coloured biscuits. Also what do you think of them? Or do you think Wafcol salmon and potato are better biscuits? My vets got them on hills prescription diet d/d which they are doing fantastic on but i want to change for several reasons 1.being that hills test on animals 2. Price nearly Ā£50 for 14kg which lasts less than a month 3. Not 100% happy with ingredients.
Both my dogs – a german shepherd and a springer – have food allergies, what to? i’m not exactly sure, i just know they were both scratching ALOT and myself and our vet tried everything and nothing really helped then i decided to change their food and they’ve more or less stopped scratching. But i’m really not happy with the hills d/d, don’t get me wrong it’s worked wonders for them both, i’m just not happy with whats in it. Any help would be great, thanks

honestly if you are satisfied and the d/d works for them i can’t understand why you would want to change that. i understand if you are not happy with the ingredients, but honestly a dog with food allergies is so hard to accomodate that there is no guarantee that even if you switch to another food approved for food allergies that it will agree with them. and then you will be right back to where you started with the scratching and biting. it is a vicious cycle and if you currently have it under control then i wouldnt change ANYTHING they are soooo sensitive it really isnt worth it. is your personal belief stronger than the proof you have that d/d works. and honestly i couldnt fault them for testing on animals, it is an animal food. are they supposed to give it to humans? please dont switch them it will most likely cause the very same problems you are trying to avoid

Question by angel_eyes_91086: Dog SEVERELY allergic to corn , feeding oatmeal & rice?
I have a female 4 yr old large mixed breed dog, she suffers from demodectic mange, and many food allergies. We’ve tried several brands but they all one way or the other make her sick. We cook her rice, sometimes oatmeal. Either way we add some bacon grease for flavor. She has started putting her weight back on, but I still feel like she is lacking in some things. Should I get her vitamins from the pet section at Wal-Mart to help her out? Any other suggestions to help her? She’s my baby and I hate seeing her sick so we just started cooking her food and any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Yes the food recall bothers me even more, though most of the feed being recalled has corn in it so it doesn’t seem to really affect her anyways.

I wish I could find a treat for her somewhere that doesn’t have corn in it, I get her the mammoth bones sometimes but I would like her to have the dog cookies/biscuits :( My poor girl can eat so few things that won’t make her sick. And considering she’s a very large dog (100lb Rottweiler mix) she eats a bit more.

First of all, she needs much more protein than it sounds like you are giving her.

I have a Westie with allergies, I know what you’re going through.

I feed her Nature’s Variety Lamb and Oatmeal kibble. No wheat, no corn, no soy. The Nautre’s Variety also has a raw food diet you can try if she’s really sensitive.

My sheltie puppy has food allergies to rice and…?

Question by Tiffany: My sheltie puppy has food allergies to rice and…?
i have a five, almost six month old shetland sheepdog puppy who has been allergic to every food we’ve tried him on. he was eating iams when he first broke out in a horrible rash about three months ago, and it has yet to go away. i’m so stressed out because i don’t know what to do for him. the vet has him on a “sensitive” diet that’s supposed to be good for dogs with food allergies. he’s been on this new food for about a week and a half. he had a little bag of it last week and did fine, just a little straining when he was pooping. we got the big bag on wednesday, and thursday morning he was throwing up at four in the morning, and has thrown up every time he’s eaten it since. in between the bags we gave him some rice, since the vet didn’t get any more of the sensitive food in till the next day, and he broke out in a HUGE rash. so we know he’s allergic to rice. i was thinking of maybe just trying a grain free dog food. are there any good grain free dog brands? i was thinking about just doing the allergy testing, but have heard it’s 500-800 dollars, which is A LOT of money. if we can figure this out without testing him, it would be great. i just feel terrible for him, because he’s scratching and biting himself all the time. his hair on his legs is being bitten off, and he’s got little scabs on his feet where’s he’s bitten through the skin. is there anything i can give him to make him more comfortable? i would really appreciate any advice people can give me on a good diet for him, particularly good grain free foods. thank you.
is there anything i can give him in the meantime? like cooked ground beef or something? he just can’t keep this food down we’re giving him, and i’m nervous that he isn’t getting any nutrients.
i’ve been looking into the raw diet, but it doesn’t really say WHAT to feed them. just chicken, chicken bones raw…would you mind telling me what you feed her, and how much? that might be the only option for us now, since we’re stationed in south korea and the dog food selection is pretty limited.
