Question by Nyssa ?: How much Benadryl can I give my dog for his seasonal allergies?
It’s allergy season again…. which means the poor dog is tormented by itchy skin. He’s licking his paws and legs until the fur comes off, and scratching until he bleeds.
I know that Benadryl (Diphenhydramine HCl in its generic form) is effective for dogs, but I don’t know how much to give him. I was instructed to try 25mg, but it isn’t working that well for him – He’s still itchy.
Can I double his dose to 50mg? (two pills)
He is 63 pounds.
hmmm because of the varied opinions I think I will call the vet and ask about this. Whoever has the closest answer to what the vet says will get best answer!

Question by Alexi: can dogs have seasonal allergies?
i’ve noticed over the last couple weeks my 1yr old amstaff has been sneezing and kind of coughing i guess? its not a real cough i’m not sure what noise it really is…. its not kennel cough or anything like that. her behaviors normal except the sneezing and weird noise, maybe inverted sneezes or something. i notice it more when shes been out back for a few hours. shes UTD on all her shots, doesn’t go to dog parks. she’s been a little itchy lately as well but has no sign of fleas, nor have i seen them anywhere around my property. if its allergies is there anything i can do? it doesn’t seem to bother her, shes behaving normal its just something i’ve never seen in a dog.
also, i have not switched any food recently. or detergents for her blanket

Yes, dogs can have seasonal allergies just like people. And given you haven’t changed anyting, that’s probably what it is. You can contact your vet and ask what they recommend – some recommend Benadryl but it has to be the correct dosage for your dog.

Question by Ernest T. Bass: Can food or seasonal allergies cause my dogs ears to become waxy, smelly and itchy?
My 9 year old pittbulls ears seem to keep getting a waxy build up that smells and causes her to itch. I clean them with stuff I got from the vet which helps for a few days but then they seem to just get gross again. This has never happened in the past so I am a bit concerned. Could it be a seasonal allergy do to grass, pollen etc… or possible her diet?
I have her on a grain free diet that uses venison and yam.

Most physical symptoms – itchy, dry skin; lackluster coat; tartar; waxy ears; flatulence; is ALL food related.
If you’re not feeding raw prey model or at least grain-free, then your dog is receiving a ton of indigestible, allergenic ingredients.

They gave her rabies shot, antihistamine pills. It’s been about a week, and she has had diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy. She has been back 3 times and been treated for this with cortisone shot, flaghl etc.and is still sick! When I mentioned reaction from the rabies shot or any of the treatments, they say no it couldn’t be. I am sooo frustrated, and need a natural cure for my dog! No more poisons, or medications for my animal!
