Question by Leah: Are allergy shots worth it?
I am thinking of getting allergy shots because my allergies are out of control and oral medications aren’t cutting it anymore. I am constantly sneezing, have eye problems, skin conditions, and asthma. I am allergic to many things (food, pollens, mold, dust, cats, dogs, etc) and I’m fed up with having to take medications that barely work and will just make me sleep. I’m very busy, I’m a graduate student and I work. I don’t want to get rid of my cats and my dog I’m not that allergic to since his fur is hypoallergic. My house is old and we try our best to clean it since my allergies are so bad, but it doesn’t seem to do very much to help.
But, I’m worried about the cost and the time it takes to get the shots. My insurance covers for the shots, I just have to pay the co-pay to my doctor everytime I go in. But $ 25 2-3x a week at first for a few months is alot of money, I know after awhile I only have to go in maybe once or twice a month, but is it worth it? Is it effective in treating allergies?

allergy desensitization only works in about 50% of those who take them, it really is the luck of the draw.

Question by ellooo?: Am I allergic to oranges?? Should I get allergy shots?
When I use this mandarin/orange body splash, I get kind of itchy and small rashes, I get welts on my upper back, I get a raised heart rate and I get really hot (from the allergen affecting my adrenaline I believe)? I get this reaction from my food allergies. I’m also allergic to cats and dogs, but I react in a different way. I’m thinking about getting allergy shots because I’ve been having problems lately, and I also live with two cats.
I’m also experiencing some wheezing and nausea.
and I have asthma.

Question by Dorotea R: Could anyone tell me are the allergies shots to dogs effective, and their price?
?
I have really sensitive skin, and whenever I touch dog it turns red above my hands(It’slike tiny blisters). And I have eczema, but not in a serious form.
I heard there are allergies shots, but I’ve haven’t heard from anyone how effective and how expensive they are…( I doubt they even have them in my country:X)
So, i would be grateful to anyone who tries to give me some useful information:D

The effectiveness and cost of allergy shots depend on the individual person, but there is some general information. As for the cost, that really depends on your insurance and what it covers. Generally though, they are pretty expensive, especially because you usually take them for 3-5 years. As for the effectiveness, they are generally quite effective on mild allergies. It takes several months for them to work, but after that you will probably see improvement.
Talk to your doctor for more information!
