I don’t know how to properly stack either BUT I think it would be a good idea to start taking your show training classes with her. That way when you get your other dog, that you KNOW you are going to show, you will have some classes under your belt and a bit more experience.

Question by Brian: Should I Switch Vets?
I have a golden retriever puppy and he is 6 months old. I have been taking him to the same vet since i got him and are running into some issues. First of all my dog is having a straching problem which the vet at first told me it was a bacterial infection. she had me get $ 150.00 in meds to fix the problem and told me that it was not allergy related. After about two weeks the scratching came back but with hot spots. I took him back in and the vet wanted to run some tests. She did a skin scrapping and found him to have a fungal infection. Another $ 150.00 in meds and he is still scratching. I took him in after he was done taking his meds and now he is throwing up too. The vet then told me that i should have him allergy tested after telling me that no way could it be allergies. And he is still throwing up and not eating very much and i have to take him back into a vet. The vet never addressed the throwing up issue and told me that there was nothing to worry about. What should i do?
He is on K9 advantix and heartworm meds. So i know it’s not fleas and he is eating nutro natural choice adult chicken and rice food. He is also eating all natural dog treats. He is has baths with the shampoo’s that the vet prescribed.

It never hurts to get a second opinion. I wouldn’t necessarily write this vet off yet but get a second opinion. If the second vet roughly agrees with the first, stick with her as she is better in touch with the history on this dog. If not, try what he suggests and see if it helps your dog.

I think you are bathing her too much. He skin may be dry and thats why it’s so itchy. Make sure she doesn’t have fleas and when you do give her a bath make sure to use something soothing for the itch like oatmeal shampoo or even head and shoulders.

Question by Seanx23: I just got a dog bite What should i do?
I went to my friends house and got a dog bite from one of his two dogs that were barking at me, the smaller dog bit me on the leg. I had jeans on though. I rolled up at my jeans and i just saw some skin peeled off. Later i got affront of my friend’s car while the light’s shinning on it i saw the blood coming out from the wound. So i drove home ( which took about 20min), My dad (Allergy Doctor) washed my wound with water, and put some anti infectious powder on it and covered it over with a band-aid. I asked my friend if the dog has been vaccinated he said recently. I’m afraid that i will get rabies, I’m 17 years old and i have a fairly good immune system, i understand that the virus can be dormant for weeks up to months before it actually reaches the central nervous system. I really need some serious advice from people that has gotten bites from dogs and suggest what i should do in my situation, and what are the chances, the likelyhood of Rabies infecting me. I need to act before it’s too late. Please help.

Question by Dawg: What should I do?
To start off, I’m 16 and can’t do much without my mum’s help. Anyway, I’ve got a black lab mix. Ever since it started warming up this year, she started with some kind of allergies. I’ve looked up everything and came down to the decision that it MUST be seasonal allergies. She’s about 2 years old. The thing is, we don’t have the hundreds or thousands of dollars to find out what it is exactly and even if we did, I tend to think that vets often don’t know much more than anyone else would, due to the experiences I’ve had. We did bring her to the vet a couple months ago, and spent THREE HUNDRED bucks to find out that they don’t know what she has. Although, they didn’t do any more than a skin scrape and stool sample to try to find out what it is. She’s just a happy-go-lucky, proud-to-be-alive dog, and there’s no way in Hell I can bring her to the pound b/c they’ll just put her to sleep. Her hair falls out, she’s constantly scratching and biting at herself.
Yesterday she pulled out a huge patch of hair on the top of her rump. The size of it is a little bigger than a quarter of a sheet of paper. I had an e-collar on her, but it didn’t work. Since she’s so long and lanky, she could still reach everywhere but her ears. I took it off yesterday b/c she had already pulled it off. So now her ears are all scratched up and nearly hairless. I can’t stand to leave her in this condition, but I also couldn’t stand to kill her (put her down). =’( I originally took her from a friend’s aunt who didn’t want her anymore simply b/c she was hyper and big. They were starving the Hell out of her and were going to bring her to the pound, so I took her. I got her last year around September at 1.5 years old. And since she turned about 2 years old, she started with this. *sigh* I don’t know what to do anymore. I was going to wait until this winter to see if it clears up, and if it does, that must mean it’s seasonal allergies, right?
So then I could get her some yearly allergy shots for like, the common seasonal allergies like pollen and grass seed, etc. But then I don’t know if I should just “put her out of her misery” since it’s so bad when there’s hope that it will clear up and we can give her seasonal allergy shots. Is it worth it to let her “suffer” for a few more months or just kill her when there IS hope that we /can/ most likely get rid of it a bit later? I just hate to put her down since she’s got such a happy-go-lucky attitude and never fails to wag her tail and just seems like she enjoys being alive despite her allergy problem… What do you think? I’m at a loss. =’( Could I try getting her an allergy shot right now? I mean, I’m PRETTY DARN SURE it’s seasonal allergies. Every last symptom she has points to that. Would the vet let me get her an allergy shot even though we’re not 100% sure? It couldn’t hurt, could it?
And there are no rescues near here. Not even slightly near here. *sigh* I’m so sad… =’( Please don’t flame me. I don’t need that right now. I’m already going through enough and I’m not trying to let her suffer… I just don’t know what to do. *tear*
It’s because my mom keeps telling me I should just “put her down”. -_- These are NOT just hotspots. She’s had hot spots before, and this is MUCH worse. She also starts sneezing her butt off if she lays down in the grass. If you stroke her along her back with your fingers, she tries to scratch. She’s lost her hair in small patches all over her body. And even in the places that she doesn’t scratch or pick at, the hair still falls out on it’s own. She first started losing her hair on the underside of her neck, but now it’s all grown back. Which I think is weird. It’s weird that her neck healed up but the rest of her is all messed up. =(
Okay, I read the site. So hot spots is general, can be caused by allergies. But that’s just it, it’s allergies. Healing up the spots isn’t going to get rid of it. You have to get rid of the underlying probelm… which would be allergies…..
