I have a pug who is nearly 2 years old. He has suddenly developed small lumps on his head. They are in 2 lines on each side of his head and feel quite hard. They don’t appear to itch, but I can see the skin underneath his fur appears to be a little red.
He has been on quite a lot of medication for treating a bacterial infection and demodex mites. He has finished his antibiotic treatment about 2 weeks ago, around the same time I applied an ‘advocate’ pipette for the mites.
The mite treatment also treats fleas, lice and some types of work so I don’t think the cause could be from any of the above. I wash his bedding every 2-3 days and the area where he sleeps is cleaned everyday.
I have looked on the internet and have found that the possible cause of this could be an allergy which my vet has already discussed with me, and said an allergy could be the cause of the problems we were initially having.
The mite outbreak has been cleared and no mites were found at his last skin scraping. Does anyone know what the possible cause of these lumps could be?
I am going to make my dog an appointment at the vets, just wanted to know if anyone had any helpful advice or tips in the meantime?
Thanks

I just adopted this little chihuahua out of a really horrible shelter, and he’s in really bad shape. He’s extremely skinny and seems to have a skin condition of some sort. The vet says its allergies, but underneath his arms his irritation seems to also be from the harness they made him wear 24/7. he has the rash on his neck as well. the vet said to give him fish oil [which he loves], and then benedryl to help with the itching. I didnt want to give him any benedryl, but he seems to be itchin up a storm [a snow storm lol], so i went out and bought some, but he wont take it. giving him only one half ata time of course, i tried putting it in bread, but he wasnt fooled. i tried crushing it up and putting it in bread…no dice. any ideas? hes kind of a picky eater =\
thanks for all your help guys! my vet told me to give cholo half of a 25 mg pill once a day until the fish oil starts doing its job and he’s not so itchy. im sure whatever they were feeding him in that shelter wasnt nearly as good as what im giving him now because his coat already seems to be looking better. he gladly ate my laced cheese treat, so thats for all the ideas. once he gets the hang of that, im sure i’ll have the move on to peanut butter ;] thanks all

My dog is a mixed chihuahua male and is 1 year and a half. About 2 months ago we moved to another country. The country we are in now is summer and warm all year round but he seems ok with the heat. He is a short haired breed.
About 5 weeks or so ago i noticed a few small red/brownish spots very very tiny on his skin, usually was either on his belly, thighs and on his back. He never scratched them or became annoyed with them, but they just appeared out of nowhere. So I went to the vet and asked to get him looked at. The vet said it may be food allergy and to not feed him too much meat especially chicken and no chicken skin whatsoever.
I began treating the spots with petroleum jelly and an anti biotic cream for skin ailments in dogs that came from a vet. I gave him a bath with oatmeal shampoo and stopped giving him chicken. The spots disappeared for about 3 or so weeks.
But now they have come back and its been a week already. I took him back to the vet the other day and he didn’t seem to worry and gave me a prescription for vitamins. My dog’s hair is getting worse each day, it seems more dry, brittle, coarse and excessive shedding. Don’t know if the shedding is only because it’s terribly hot around here.
He is getting more and more of these scab like spots. The spots are brown, start off brown then form a scab that fall off or that i pick off and then the area becomes hairless and some heal, but others are still brown even after the scab has formed and fallen off.
They are very tiny. They are dark brown spots (at first thought were insect bites or maybe him scratching himself but it’s never been seen like this before) They form a scab then fall off, either heal after 4 days or stay brownish.
My dog has been vaccinated twice, heartwormed yes and dewormed. I rarely feed him meat these days, veges and fish sometimes.
He has had a food change. When we first got here, the kibble that I took with us once opened the ants formed an entire civilization inside the kibble pack in half a day. It’s a terrible place if you hate insects. So I bought him some kibble but of a different type.
He has been eating fine as always, even before, and during this strange skin ailment that he’s developed. His stool is firm and good. He doesn’t scratch either which is why i am confused about his skin.
what are these spots?

I am interested in buying a westie but i keep hearing about skin problems that cost a lot of money to take care of. Can anyone explain to me how they get this and how to possibly prevent it because i can’t afford to pay for these types of problems.

I have a 14 week-old miniature dachshund puppy and about a week ago I noticed a small (about 2mm) bump on the top of her head that almost resembled a wart. Since then, a few have appeared down her neck and onto her back, as well as one near her anus. She has been scratching moderately since I’ve brought her home and has had a bath with oatmeal and aloe vera shampoo in attempt to alleviate her itching, but to no avail.
The bumps are not red or discolored and there are no signs of hair loss. Also, I did see a flea on her the other day and will get Revolution for flea control when we visit the vet.
Could this be a sign of an allergy to flea bites? Food allergies? I have her on by nature puppy formula right now which has no wheat, corn or soy, but have been considering switching to something that doesn’t contain chicken or beef.
She has an appointment to see our vet on Tuesday, I was just wondering if anyone has experienced similar skin problems with your dogs.
