My dog is a 1.5 year old chocolate lab. He has red sores that are 1/2″ – 1″ in diameter and sometimes oblong in shape. They never appear to be filled with anything. He also has very small areas of hair loss (the size of a pen tip) on his legs. He also got a raised flaky skin patch around his eye that went away and left a small hairless patch. He is on allergy medication and thyroid medication (prior to this issue). He is also on purina EN and Canidae (Lamb and Rice) food because of GI problems (was on this prior to this issue). He was tested for ring worm and it came up negative. Nothing grew in the petri dish. We were treating him with medication, wipes, and shampoo for this (no real improvement). Does anyone have any idea what else it might be? Our vet has given 3 options: 1. Allergies (change his diet) 2. Fungal problem (put on fungal medication) 3. Bacteria problem (put on bacteria medication. Can anyone help me figure out the issue????

I have been trying to train them but what I am doing doesnt seem to work with one of the dogs. We have one Mini Eskimo, (My dog) and a Llasa Apso (His Dog) The eski is timid and shy but learns quickly and is pretty obedient. If I am trying to give the Llasa a command, the Eski acts like I am talking to her and starts to shake and freak out when I am repeating the command to the Llasa and she isn’t doing it. The Llasa just ignores me, stares me down or goes over to him and he lets her lay there and do nothing all day. So we need owner training tips too. On walks the Llasa pulls and has injured my shoulder and neck from pulling her back, and trying to teach her not to pull. The Llasa snaps at and bullys the other dog, and snaps at the hubby, kids and strangers. She has never snapped at me tho. She also eats everything in site and wants more. She is under foot when I am trying to cook. I trip over her constantly in the kitchen. She was fat when we first got her and has food allergies. She has seperation anxiety and cant be left alone. She sweats, barks incessantly, and defecates in the cage. She would be put down if we gave her to the Humane society, I know she will be a good dog with the right training.

Read Cesar Millan. Anything can be fixed. We have a very nervous dog too, but we are working on correcting her with Cesar’s techniques and she is better already.

I have a 14 week-old miniature dachshund puppy and about a week ago I noticed a small (about 2mm) bump on the top of her head that almost resembled a wart. Since then, a few have appeared down her neck and onto her back, as well as one near her anus. She has been scratching moderately since I’ve brought her home and has had a bath with oatmeal and aloe vera shampoo in attempt to alleviate her itching, but to no avail.

The bumps are not red or discolored and there are no signs of hair loss. Also, I did see a flea on her the other day and will get Revolution for flea control when we visit the vet.

Could this be a sign of an allergy to flea bites? Food allergies? I have her on by nature puppy formula right now which has no wheat, corn or soy, but have been considering switching to something that doesn’t contain chicken or beef.

She has an appointment to see our vet on Tuesday, I was just wondering if anyone has experienced similar skin problems with your dogs.
I doubt that it’s a tick infestation because the only ticks found in this area are the poultry tick and the spinose ear tick that is found on livestock; it’s rare for either to be found on dogs.

I never even considered flies, but that theory may be possible– I live near horses and I know it hurts when the flies bite me!

It takes only one flea to drive a dog bonkers.

You’re on the right track wrt your suspicions (fleas, other parasites, allergies, etc.)

I’m glad you’re going to the vet, they’ll be able to diagnose better than we can here.

PS: Be sure to also discuss spaying your dachshund within the next 2 months while you’re at the vet’s. =)

Normally I would take her to the vet but we are extremely short on money and in the process if moving someplace cheaper. I just simple do not have any extra money, every dollar we have and are making for the next 2 months already being used.

It is a pink raised bump, sort of looks like a mole but pink, it is perfectly round and smooth. Fur grows all around it but not on the bump. When it first appeared several months ago it was very tiny, I thought it was a bug bit or a pimple and ignored it. It has been slowly growing and is now around half and inch. It does not seem to hurt or bother her in anyway, in fact I don’t think she knows it is there. Even when you touch it she it does not bother her. The bump does not connect down under the skin to anything, if that makes sense. She has had problems with the skin on her back when she was a puppy due to food allergies. However he found a food that has resolved the previous skin issues.

I know that no one can diagnose her from this description. What I need to know is if it is going to be ok waiting a few more months while we get back on our feet to get her into a vet or if I need to go to a local shelter and beg them to see my dog. Considering she is acting perfectly normal that seems a little bit dramatic.
She is a grey mini schnauzer only about 2 years old.

From what you say I think you can wait. If it gives her pain I’d go to a vet.

I have a pug who is nearly 2 years old. He has suddenly developed small lumps on his head. They are in 2 lines on each side of his head and feel quite hard. They don’t appear to itch, but I can see the skin underneath his fur appears to be a little red.

He has been on quite a lot of medication for treating a bacterial infection and demodex mites. He has finished his antibiotic treatment about 2 weeks ago, around the same time I applied an ‘advocate’ pipette for the mites.

The mite treatment also treats fleas, lice and some types of work so I don’t think the cause could be from any of the above. I wash his bedding every 2-3 days and the area where he sleeps is cleaned everyday.

I have looked on the internet and have found that the possible cause of this could be an allergy which my vet has already discussed with me, and said an allergy could be the cause of the problems we were initially having.

The mite outbreak has been cleared and no mites were found at his last skin scraping. Does anyone know what the possible cause of these lumps could be?

I am going to make my dog an appointment at the vets, just wanted to know if anyone had any helpful advice or tips in the meantime?

The term tumor applies to any lump, bump, or growth. It can also include a swelling created by an abscess or similar problem. Tumors fall into two categories: benign and malignant.
