sheltie dog wont stop itching?

Question by jaycee: sheltie dog wont stop itching?
I have a 1 1/2 year old Sheltie and he wont stop itching. I know that it is summer and maybe allergy season but for some reason he wont stop itching himself. He has no fleas we have him on flea control that is working good for him. He is also loosing a bit of hair. We took him to the vet a few weeks ago and they gave us some orange medicine to give to him in his mouth and a spray to spray on the itchy parts that turn red. They said give him benedrill as needed. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you sooooo much

What are you feeding the dog? Food allergies are a very common cause of itching, and most commercial dog foods contain known allergens. Consider switching to a better-quality food. In particular, avoid anything with corn meal.

Question by Supersitter: Help please? My Bachon Frise bites at her paws and we don’t know how to stop it?
She has a dog cone on now, because she will bite and lick at the tops of her front two paws until they bleed and swell up. We asked the vet, and he said that she probably has allergies, so we bought her some hypo-allergenic food and dog treats, as well as some topical medication to put on her paws and sensitive skin dog shampoo. We have been doing this for the past six weeks and have seen no improvement. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you solve the problem? We have tried covering them with bandages but she always ripped them off. Thanks in advance!

It may be grass seeds stuck between her fingers!

Question by glitterygold52: how do i get fleas to stop biting me?
i live with my boyfriend and his parents. him mom is a collect-o and has over ten cats living in the house all of which come in and out of the house everyday. she lives off a very fixed income and cant afford to get the cats spaded / neuteredd. let alone fix the flea problem. the house they live in is over a Hundred years old and is full of dirt and other nasty stuff, like cat poop and pee everywhere. im allergic to the cats and dog she has. i cant even walk in the house without having an allergy attack or getting bit by fleas. every night that i spend the night there i feel like there are fleas crawling all over me and i get paranoid and cant sleep.i try to wear long sleeve shirts and pants Whit cuffs around the ankles but every morning i wake up itching bites that i had gotten. its really starting to irritate me and i have no idea what to do. just this week a mother cat had lost four out of five baby kittens due to loss of blood the fleas have been chowing on. what should i do?

first off….never go back there. second call animal control and the local health department. then i would go home..wash any cloths you wore over there in hot water and color safe bleach. next, shower and wash yourself down completely. if this bad, see a doctor to give something for it. and finally, find a man who doesnt have nasty ass parents.

Q&A: My dog can’t stop itching, please help!?

Question by Autumn: My dog can’t stop itching, please help!?
Okay, so, my dog, Blitz, is a 4 year old weimaraner, and he’s always been in great health. But all of the sudden, he can’t seem to stop itching himself. I thought it was fleas, so I bought some shampoo that’s suppose to get rid of fleas. The shampoo was organic, with no harsh chemicals, but after I gave him the bath, he was still itching. I gave it a few days, but nothing has gone away. I’ve now crossed fleas off the list because our cat, Starr, hasn’t been itching in the least.
A week ago we ran out of his dog food, and couldn’t find it anywhere in town, so we fed him some of our cat’s food, and he’s always trying to steal the cat food, so he’s had it before and has had no reaction, so I don’t think it’s an allergy. (Also, both the cat and dog food is grain free and organic) Finally, we found a place that carried the right food, but he’s still itching.
It’s odd though, because he only itches his side, his face, and his paws. But, it’s also getting really bad. He itched so much that he scratched himself, and it bled. His eyes are red, and I feel so bad, because he just looks up at me with this sad little face, and I want to help my baby, but I have no idea what’s wrong with him!
Do you think that it’s a rash, or maybe he really is allergic to something? Please help!

Q&A: My dog wont stop biting his tail!?

Question by jonhhy boyy: My dog wont stop biting his tail!?
HI i have a 5 year old beagle and he’s been biting his tail. So i asked the vet and he said its probably allergies and gave me benadryl. Before i give him benadryl i gave him a flea bath in which i saw 4 or 5 little brown looking bugs and they appeared to be fleas. so i put his k9 advantix on his back and hes still itching! what can this be! he is thoroughly cleaned but can flea bites still bother my poor little beagle for a few more days/weeks! please help! Also. He just got anal gland removal surgery about 4 months ago aporoximately and they are 100% healed. the vet said that thats not the reason for the constant biting. could it be a deodorizer i sprayed on the rug?
i have realized i used arm and hammer deodorizer powder and this may be the issue BUT i still had fleas in his bath…how do i rate best answer??

it sounds to me that the flea bites are bothering him. Flea bites are like mosquito bites… they itch. Some dogs are more prone to itching than others. I would try the benadryl… it will stop the itching and let him have some peace.
