Golden retriever losing hair on his back and tail?

Question by raidergirl1965: Golden retriever losing hair on his back and tail?
We have an 8 year old Golden that has lost hair on his back and tail and gets goopy eyes. We have tried frontline, advantage, and advantix. He has been to 4 different vets over the last 2 years and nothing they prescribe has helped him he has been given eye ointment, eye drops, several different prescriptions nothing seems to work for him. He is a wonderful dog very well behaved and loving. We just feel sorry for him because he always seems to be itchy and biting at himself. We have gotten “bitter tasting spray” to spray on him but when that wears off he is right back at it. He gets an oatmeal bath once a month (we were told bathing him too much will take away the oils in his skin) We give him benidryl but after a few days that doesn’t seem to help him much either. Please any sugestions out there are welcome. We love him and do not want him suffering. We have spent a few thousand dollars trying to help him and would be happy to spend more if it will help him. They just keep telling us he has very bad allergies.
Shelby: he has been to 4 different vets in the last 2 years. We have tried every food that has been recomended to us by vets and pet food stores including all natural and organic foods.
All the vets we have been to have private practice small vets. I would not take my pet to the large chain. He has had injections they lasted maybe a day or 2.

Father of 2: thank you. I’m going to start trying olive oil tomorrow. He has already eaten tonight or I would start now.
Freezin: I’m going to start looking for that shampoo tomorrow thanks.
Jimbs: What do I do with the liserene? feed it to him or put it on his fur?

My dog has red bumps on the bottom of her tail?

Question by itsmee: My dog has red bumps on the bottom of her tail?
i’ve recent noticed these little red bumps on the bottom of my dogs tail around her butt. she has been very itchy due to a skin infection that she had. she also is constantly licking her private area, and sometimes rubs her butt on the carpet. i’ve taken her to the vet numerous times, and she is highly allergic, so its an assumption that she is just itchy from the allergies, im just concerned what those red bumps can be, before taking her to the vet who i feel rips me off, any ideas or tips on what it might be would be a big help. … Thanks in advance!!! =]

What has your vet told her she is allergic to? Are you making sure she avoids these things? If you can keep allergens out of her life, she should be able to be nice and healthy.

Question by shanenc_adamt2004: Dog losing her fur on her butt just above the tail…?
My grandpa has a dog who is 1/2 Jack Russel and 1/2 Sheb Inu. Over the past week she has started chewing her fur just above her tail. She has two bald spots that are oblong in shape and her normal skin color. I’ve looked online to see if maybe it was the result of some kind of infection, but for it to be an infection the symptoms are described as being irritated and red around the bald area. I told him to give her 1/2 of a 25mg Benadryl tab to see if that helps, thinking that maybe it is seasonal allergies (like my dog gets every year). Does anyone have any other suggestions? He is having a rough month and not able to take her to the vet (unless it is an emergency). However, if someone thinks she needs to be seen–I would take her myself.

Put motor oil on the spot. I know it sounds weird but it will help.

What can I do about dog losing hair on tail?

Question by cottonlily84: What can I do about dog losing hair on tail?
My 7 year old Chihuahua keeps biting the hair from her tail and backside. I keep taking her to the vet and I’ve gotten answers from allergies to impacted anal glands to yeast infections to heredity but no consistent relief for her yet. The last time he didn’t even send antibiotics home for her (she bites and makes sores on her skin), but gave her the routine shot in the office and some prescription shampoo and leave on conditioner. Well now her tail has bloody sores all over it again. She’s been spayed and is on flea treatment so I can rule those two issues out. Her mother and sister did had similar problems so I do wonder if it’s hereditary. Anyone else have any experience with this? I know it hurts/aggravates her and she looks pitiful. Even if it is just bad genes shouldn’t there be something to help her?
