Question by Poodles4ever: Had to take all the chew bones away….gave the kong…fun ideas for the kong please (no peanut butter)?
fun Ideas for the kong….no peanut butter

As you probably know Sasha has had a bit of skin irratation on her muzzle…..we discovered the cause last night…..its the way she holds her chew bones….They always rub up against that spot. So atleast until she is healed up she can’t have a bone to chew (whether it be a bone or a chew)
We basically filled up a kong with Ice cubes last night and that has given her lots to do….(there is nothing she loves more than ice) and I think the cold from the ice also helped her irratation because this morning its looking a little better….

It looks like the Kong is going to have to be her toy of choice (atleast for a while) what other fun ideas do you have for the kong….

They can’t include Peanut butter….(we don’t bring it in the house due to my severe allergies)

We heard fat free plain yougurt is okay to put in there and freeze with some kibble….

She is a dog that has to be kept occupied when we can’t give her our complete attention……

Bones were kind of her pacifier……but when paci starts to hurt you paci goes bye bye…..or so we told her.

Thanks she is a chewer and loves to chew but we noticed she doesn’t chew on the rubber toys or much less touch them….honestly her first interest in the Kong was last night with the ice in it and we used to stick treats in it (and back then she could care less)

You can try to buy Pea butter at a health food store. It’s made from peas, not peanuts, but taste very similar. There are other nut butters as well you can try.

Question by M H: How long does it take to see improvement after you start the medication. She doesn’t want to eat or drink.?
Took to vet yesterday because she has lost her appetite and doesn’t want to drink much water either. She is a maltese shitzu mix and weighs 9 1/2 pounds and is 2 years old. He told me he thought she had a urinary infection because she was in heat a few weeks ago and that she also might have some type of seasonal allergy because she is chewing and scratching herself. She also wants to sleep a lot, although I can get her to eat if I put a small amount of white chicken in her dog food, but she won’t eat the dog food. She is playing still some but not as much as she usually does. He put her on the Baytril and gave her a cortisone shot. How long should it take before I see any improvement? I am really concerned, so anyone who can tell me anything will be helpful. Thanks.

Your poor dog is suffering every second that you delay getting it treated.

Don’t delay, get your dog treated immediately.

Should I take my dog to a different veterinarean?

Question by Ashley: Should I take my dog to a different veterinarean?
Okay, this is kind of a long story. I’ve already decided to try a different vet the next time I need to take my dogs, I’m just wondering what people might think on the outside looking in.

Okay, in July of 2009, one of my dogs, Nubi (his full name is Anubis) peed in the house and one night was laying in bed and peed on it in his sleep. I thought it was a fluke, but I noticed him dripping pee later that day, so I took him outside and he didn’t really have to go that bad. So we took him to the vet that day. Turns out he had a bad UTI, and an ear infection. So I had to start giving him an antibiotic for a bacterial ear infection, and the medicine for a UTI. The UTI cleared up no problem in a couple of days, but I had to continue with the ear medicine. It seemed to get better for a little while, but it never went away and I had to keep buying more medicine.

In the meantime, after our dogs got vaccinations, our other dog, Sphinxy (that was her name before I got her and I decided to keep it) developed a weird lump on her hip where she had been vaccinated. So we took her to the vet. My husband said he thought it was from the vaccine. The vet said that was impossible, and took a sample so they could check and see what kind of tumor it was. According to him, they found some cells that they were concerned about, so she had surgery to remove the tumor. They sent the tumor off to see what it was, and it turns out the tumor was caused by her vaccination. Her body had rejected it and formed a barrier around it. She had her teeth cleaned while she was gettting the tumor removed, so she was put on antibiotics for it. She ended up with an ear infection too.

After more than 2 months of no change in the ears, we took them both back to the vet to see why it wasnt working. This time, they checked to see what kind of ear infection it was. Turns out it was a yeast infection, and the medicine we had been using was for a bacterial infection, so it would have never got them better. So they gave us a different kind of medicine.

Finally, it seemed like they were starting to get better. But the infection kept coming back. I was the one cleaning out their ears and giving them the medicine, every single day, and I was frustrated and upset when it kept coming back. So we took them back to the vet (it was december by this time) and this time, the vet checked their ears, said they looked pretty clean even though they were still infected (made me feel a lot better) and said a yeast infection is caused by a food allergy. This was after 5 months of giving my dogs medicine every single day. So they told us to switch to a different food (they sold the food at their office) and not give them anything else for 90 days. We did that, and they finally began to get better.

About a week before my son was born on February 7th, and after a few weeks of clean ears, we took them back to get a clean bill of health, to make sure their ears were fine. They said Sphinxy was all better, but Nubi’s right ear was still infected. So I had to keep treating only his right ear.

About a week and a half ago, we noticed Sphinxy had some bald spots on the top of her head. I checked them to make sure it wasn’t mange, and they weren’t scaly at all, they were just bald patches. My husband took her to the vet, again, and they said her ears had such a bad infection she was scratching her head trying to get to the inside of her ears. I was a little mad, because they had told me her infection was all cleared up, and now it was back with a vengeance. My husband called me again just before he left the parking lot and told me what the doctors orders were, and luckily he happened to mention the type of medicine they gave him. I said, wait a minute, what kind of infection did they say she had? He said the same kind she had been having. I was like, that’s the kind of medicine for a bacterial infection! He went right back in and asked, and I was right. So they gave him the right kind of medicine, the kind for a yeast infection.

Now, looking back over the history of the last few months, it seems to me that they aren’t treating my dogs properly. Each time we have to keep spending money and keep coming back for vet visits. I know yeast infections are hard to get rid of, but Nubi has fought this infection for ten months, and sphinxy has almost as long. Why didn’t they test to see what kind of infection it was in the first place? And why didn’t they tell us about food allergy’s when they found out it was a yeast infection? I ended up googling yeast infections after they told us about food allergies, and the first thing that popped up said a yeast infection in dogs is caused by a food allergy.

Now, this is just our case with our dogs. We have some friends that use the same vet. Their dog is named Zeus. He’s a min pin. He started coughing really bad and having breathing problems. They took him to the vet, and they s

Yes def see a different vet I had a really good vets practice but when the owner retired, it was sold to a chain and every time I went I saw someone different, I asked friends and other dog walkers where they went and now have a new really great vet. Ask other dog walkers they have no invested interest and therefore no reason to lie! But def swap its in you’re dogs interest imagine if you were stuck with a constant ear ache you’d go get a 2nd opinion!

Should I take my dog to the vet?

Question by Sweet Nice: Should I take my dog to the vet?
I have a 8 month puggle. She has not been spayed yet, she is going to get spayed in a month because she just ended her first heat(period).

I took her to her vet a month ago when she first started her heat because she was excessively tired and after a checkup, it came out with an upset stomach.

However, I’ve been noticing since the last visit, she’s been scratching her outer ear a few times a day. Also, she licks her genital are although there is no discharge. She also scratches her side a few times a day as well. She’s been sleeping and yawning a lot more.

I fed her cesar and pedigree, but changed it to blue buffalo yesterday because i thought it was food allergies. i give her frontline every month, clean her ears, bathe her etc.

Should I still take her to the vet again or do dogs usually show these similar signs?

Best answer:

Answer by Jayse Ö Think before you breed
I have never yet heard of anyone spaying a baby platypus, which is what a “puggle” is.

If you mean a crossbred dog, I suggest you keep the spay appointment, but in the meantime you take the dog to the vet to get a diagnosis for these problems.

It does sound diet related, with ear infections and skin rashes, etc. but she will need treating for her ears at the very least.
