Question by sayswho?: my dog licks his paws SO MUCH he cant walk on them! advice? suggestions? causes? anything?
i have a 6 year old havanese who licks his paws constantly and so deeply that he can’t walk on them for hours afterwards. he does it with such intesity that he pants and his paws are all red.

we’ve taken him to a vet a few times for this but nothing theyve done has really helped. we use all natural cleansers on our floors so i doubt its anything he’s walking on. one vet said it could be food allergies so we’ve switched brands more than a few times but nothings helped. the topical solutions dont do much at all. it’s not a seasonal allergy either.

anyone have any advice or tips? any holistic or home remedies to relieve this itching?

thanks in advance.

Which dog foods & treats have no whey in them?

Question by debmichelle1972: Which dog foods & treats have no whey in them?
My 3 year old German Shepherd/Black Lab mix girl, Butterscotch, was recently diagnosed with allergies to cats, ragweed, & whey (she reacted most severely to this allergen). Her vet wants her on Science Diet, but I would like to research all sorts of options. Thanks!
We live near Chicago, IL.

Of course your vet wants her on Science Diet – they get comission for every bag they sell! Science Diet is not actually that great a food. I would try lots of different websites (someone is bound to say dogfoodanalysis, just remember its not the “god of all dog food sites”) and read the ingredients in each bag. You will find something a lot better for her, without all the cereals and additives and most probably cheaper too.

P.S Where are you located? Some foods can only be found in America, some in England etc.

Question by ?Bailey?: What would you do with neighbors feeding your dog despite your telling them over and over to stop?
We’re very, very careful with what my dog eats. We’ve told this neighbor who we share a fence with to stop feeding the dog junk but he keeps doing it. He’s only trying to be friendly I think and loves dogs but he doesn’t know any better and has no idea what does can and cannot eat and is feeding our dog foods we’d never feed him. I’ve told him time and time again that he’s making my dog sick and that my dog has severe allergies and needs to be on a special diet so he’d stop. What can be done with people like this who really are only trying to be friendly and just don’t know any better and apparently have the attention span of a mosquito?

I’ve been walking my dog for now in the fenced in yard to keep him healthy and stop him eating things he shouldn’t but I’d really like to not to have to do that if I didn’t have to. This is my house and my property and I’d like to just enjoy it and at the same time, feel that my dog is SAFE.
No, actually no vet bills so far. I know he’s given the dog stomach problems and diarrhea when all this started but, like I said, I’m out there to supervise him constantly now. Which is what I’m trying to avoid…. I want my yard back. I want my dog to be able to enjoy his yard safely and not have to worry about it. And no, my dog is not a barker at all. Like I keep saying, I’m out there with him nonstop in the yard but even if I wasn’t, he still has just never been a barker. This neighbor is the problem even though he’s not trying to be. He has no idea what’s good or bad for a dog or what is toxic to dogs or what you can or can’t feed them.
I do like the idea of giving him the proper food and am going to see if that will work, though, I don’t even know if that can get through to him.. it’s worth a try.
Oh no, we take very good care of the dog. Most of the people on my street come to visit my dog when he’s out in the yard because he’s so friendly but this is THIS NEIGHBOR’S way of being friendly with him. He does not think he’s under fed. No one thinks we abuse him. He is very well trained. We spent many hours training him. People just like the dog and come to visit him. This neighbor is not quite all there and doesn’t comprehend after being told over and over. I’m worried because he doesn’t know dogs. Does not know what is good, bad, toxic, etc., to dogs. My dog is well trained, does not bark, is not a nuisance to anyone and is VERY friendly with all the neighbors and other dogs on the street.

you should make him feel the same way. feed his dog large amounts of aspirin or chocolate and see how he likes it. this should stop all confrontation between the two of you

Question by NemmaLie: Do you have a dog treats that contain little or no grain in them?
Hi, I was wondering if you had any low or no grain dog treat recipes that I could use? My friend and I are going to be holding a bake sale sort of thing near my local dog beach and at some parks near her house where we will be selling both human food and dog treats. We will then donate all of the money to the Humane Society (we were going to volunteer there but the humane society is full of volunteers, LOL!).

I want to sell treat that have little or no grain in them so that they are pretty healthy for the dogs, plus dogs with grain allergies could still enjoy the treats!

So, if you have any treats that you use or would like to use with your dogs, do you mind sharing them with me?

Thank You!

Emily

Q&A: Can I own a bird with an allergy to them?

Question by Cocoa Puff: Can I own a bird with an allergy to them?
I have sneezing fits and itchy eyes when I sleep on feather-filled pillows. I owned many birds as a child but recently discovered from a skin allergy test that I’m very allergic. I know people that have dog/cat allergies, and still own them. What do they do to stop the allergic reactions? Is there a way for me to do the same thing for my feather allergy? I really miss having a bird in the house.
I stayed “sick” as a child with sore throats, sneezing, chronic coughing, but I didn’t know it was from allergies to the birds. My mom thought it wasa from outdoor allergies.

There are many allergy medications that you could take but I think that allergy shots are more effective and you don’t need to take them as often. It may not completely relieve your allergy but it could help. Ask a doctor and they will be able to help you much more effectively and give you resources.
