What is this bump on my dog’s upper lip?

Question by Laura: What is this bump on my dog’s upper lip?
I just noticed today that my dog has a tiny bump where her whiskers are. It looks like a pimple ready to pop, but flesh-toned and red in the middle. She is a lab mix, about four years old. She has been having some skin problems lately. The last time we took her to the vet we were told to give her lamb and rice food because her allergies to beef and chicken were giving her dandruff and dirty ears. She’s been on the lamb and rice diet for about two months now, but the past week she’s had some dry patches on her underbelly that look very red and scabby. I gave her some pedigree wet food for a treat yesterday, I hope that isn’t what triggered the reaction on her lip. If anyone knows what this could be please respond!

Cheaper food contains LOTS of stuff that can cause allergies in dogs. The rice in your lamb and rice food could also be causing problems.
I would say to give Acana Lamb and Apple dog kibble a try. It’s a great food for dogs with allergies.

As for the bump, it likely is a pimple. Dogs get them too. If it don’t go away in a week or so, have it looked at by your vet.

Question by ryansullivan626: My dog has hyphema ( blood in eyes ) what could cause this?
I took my dog to the vet friday morning after i found out wednesday he was pretty much blind all of a sudden. The vet was closed at night wednesday and thanksgiving so i had to wait almost 2 days. Anyways he seemed fine wednesday morning going to the bathroom etc. then i got up to be with him and noticed he wasnt using his eyes to get around but was leading with his nose/smell. Well his eyes were red and blood in them. His eyes were squinting/closing alot in the last few months but was told it was allergys, he has an auto immune disorder and also has dry skin, a bit of trobule walking (looks like sore bones), and the skin is thinning around his butt and he used to itch/scratch it but the vetagain said allergy’s concerning the skin and he doesnt bother itching it anymore. Im basically wondering what could cause this hyphema and his now blindness, he had a bit of discharge/tearing from his eyes a while ago but again was told it was allergys. Please any options that cause this is help ty

A hyphema is the collection of blood in the anterior chamber of the eye. Visible as a reddish tinge in the anterior chamber, hyphemas are frequently caused by blunt trauma to the eye and may partially or completely block vision. When the anterior chamber is filled completely with blood, the eye appears black and is commonly known as an “eight ball hemorrhage”.

A long-standing hyphema may result in hemosiderosis and heterochromia.[1]

[edit] Treatment
Bed rest and elevation (30-40 degrees); keep both eyes patched, sedate, and use medication to reduce anterior chamber pressure.

First Aid for Hyphema (blood in the anterior chamber of the eye) includes bed rest with head elevated by 45-60 degrees with both eyes closed (not patched or bandaged), application of ice-pack, avoidance of straining at stools and bending down. Medication to reduce eye-pressure and corticosteriods, both as eye-drops, should be started. No aspirin or NSAIDS. If pain is severe use Paracetamol.

Q&A: What is this?

Question by JB: What is this?
I recently went to the doctor because I thought I could have scabies. I adopted a dog from the pound in bad condition. Her hair has grown back and she doesnt have any welts or anything just some black skin under where her hair is growing back. I’m not sure if she has mange though bc her hair is growing back and she’s looking healthier every day but shes licking and scratching.
Then I started to get red bumps on my legs and arms. So I went to the doctor and he said he didnt think it was scabies rather than dermititis, an allergy from something on the dog. But I really dont think the doctor know what he was talking about. He didnt even look at my bumps which looks like they have tiny red dots around them like a tiny hole the size of a needle tip…. Can anyone give me a hint as to what is going on?
Also, as the bumps come up, theyll last about a day maybe less and go away. Then different ones with come up in different places too
A little but it is not incredibly bad. I think when I think about it some I make them itch more but other than that I only scratch here or there… but I dont know if its from that or I have really dry skin too
Well I started to get the bumps when my dog sat on my lap one day. She got up and I have an entire patch of like thirty small red bumps that didnt itch… It seems Im the only one with them. Other people in my family and my roommates have played with the dogs, had skin on skin contact with me, but im the only one with them
Neither me or my family could find any fleas on the dog… The vet tested for mange too but said it came out negative…. I hear it isnt always caught though

Question by lovemysaint: i just took my dog to the vet the other day and he got this medication for inflamed joints and?
i took him to the vet and he got this medication for inflamed joints and they said it would also help with his allergies, because he has really dry skin. and i am supposed to give him 2 pills for 6 days then 2 pills every other day till there gone. my question is it seems like when i started giving him the pills he cant hold it. it was outta no where and he just started peeing like he couldn’t hold it so i rushed him outside and then an HOUR later he had to pee again and he “couldn’t hold it” and i had to take him back outside. is it his meds? is this normal? he is almost a year old and he never pees in the house he is very well pottie trained. I’m not sure the name of the meds it doesn’t say. its for his inflamed joints…sooo….i’m just confused why all of a sudden he coudnt wait to be let out. we let him out whenever he wants he usally lets us know.
what it is isnt labeled on the meds. it just has directions. i mean he probably told me when i was there but i honestly cant remember what he said. but i will give them a call.
yeah i just got off the phone with the vet and he said that it was normal that he has to go to the bathroom a lot more and they said to just take him out more frequently. but thanks for all of your guys help…it was appreciated.

Question by sunset8949: Is this a scratch, pink eye, or something else?
My friend invited me to spend the night at her house last night. She has 3 cats and a dog. As far as I know, I’m not allergic to cats or dogs, but I’m thinking I might be a little bit because I was a little sniffly and sneezy last night, and my younger brother is allergic to dogs.

Anyways, because of that, I was rubbing my eyes more than usual because they were kind of watery from allergies. Today I noticed that the outside of my left eye is really red. I thought maybe it was because I rubbed it too much, which happens sometimes with me. So I put some Visine in my eye directly on that spot and it burned/stung for about 5 seconds, which doesn’t happen when I put in eye drops. So I’m thinking it’s a scratch or something, but I don’t wear contacts or anything so I can’t really figure out how I would have scratched it unless it was from the rubbing.

Also, on the bottle of Visine it said it expired in February 2010. That wouldn’t cause a burning sensation though, right?

Anyways, the Visine isn’t making the redness go away in that spot. The possibility of pink eye crossed my mind, but I don’t think that’s what it is (I had pink eye once when I was in middle school).

Is there anything I can do, assuming it is a scratch, to make the redness go away or to make it heal faster?

Here is a picture. I had to use the flash on the camera because it didn’t really show up that well without the flash, which is why my skin looks REALLY white lol.

Hey, So, it looks like you just rubbed it a lot, but I’m not a doctor of any type and that picture isnt the greatest…so if it persists, definetly go see a doctor of some kind (eye or MD)
