Q&A: Is vinegar safe for treating my dog’s yeast?

Question by ErgoF: Is vinegar safe for treating my dog’s yeast?
My female boxer has food and environmental allergies that are currently being treated, but as a result she has developed quite the yeast infection on many parts of her body. I am quite confident that the allergy treatment is working (treating the causes, not the symptoms) so that is not the question. Some of the research I have done on her yeast skin problems has indicated that vinegar is a good treatment and prevention for yeast on dogs. Is straight vinegar safe to spray on her skin or does it need to be diluted first? If so, to what proportions? Thanks for the info.

(I have asked this question before and got two very rude, ill-informed answers, so before you just tell me to take my dog to the vet, here is some more information:

My dog goes to the vet a minimum of once per month. She has had a serum test to determine the specific allergens that aggravate her and as a result she is on a limited ingredient diet and medication to handle some of the unavoidable environmental allergies. She takes an omega-3 supplement with her food. She is also given a prescription antiseptic bath at least once per week. Steroids are not an option as they bring about terrible side effects in her and are just plain not good for her anyway. Antibiotics are not getting rid of her itchy, smelly yeast infections (yes, skin scrapings have been tested and it is just yeast) so her vet recommended researching homeopathic remedies which I have been doing. My question above is for anyone who has had experience using one of these remedies or can recommend another one that they found to be effective. Thank you!)

Your vet … recommended that you go and research homeopathic remedies?

that’s interesting

vinegar might sting inflamed skin and especially mucous membraney type skin.

try it watered down first, see how it goes … but generally, I hold and extremely dim view of simple household item remedies.

treating sarcoptic mange MYSELF?

Question by ?shelter puppies rule?: treating sarcoptic mange MYSELF?
My dogs have sarcoptic mange. It took 4 weeks to convince any vet of this because they wanted to blame allergies and saw no mites in the skin scrape. Right, $ 2000 later my dogs STILL have sarcoptic mange and NO treatment. I ordered on my own this white sulfur. I want to also treat them with revolution though. It’s such an easy treatment for this, my mind is boggled by the fact that no vet could just do this.

Anyway, I called my vet yesterday and asked this too. I’m tired of the vets and my dogs are suffering pretty bad and getting worse. My dog now has a hematoma in his other ear (his first hematoma was fixed with five drainings and steroid injections), he is BLEEDING my other dog has lesions on her stomach now.

I want to buy revolution and treat it myself immediately. But I don’t know if I can because I just gave them frontline plus on Nov 1 AND my dog has a liver problem.

My vet was off today but he called me back. He said yes there could be problems, it’s up to me I “could try it”.

I’M SO FUCKING FRUSTRATED!!!! I DONT HAVE A DVM I CANT MAKE THESE DECISIONS WHAT IF I MAKE ONE THAT HURTS MY DOGS???????

This is the FOURTH vet. And I’ve been to 2 others in this area they’re awful. This one is the best one but he leaves all the decisions up to me because he doesn’t know what to do. I don’t either!!!

So anyone with knowledge about this please, can I give revolution when I already gave frontline plus this month and I don’t know. If you say ask a vet or go see a vet, you will automatically be blocked.

Thank you
to use revolution for a mange infestation, it has to be given every 2 weeks I read so it will be an overdose even without the frontline but that’s the treatment
I already have mite bites on me but they aren’t as bad as my dogs at all. but they’re typical sarcoptic mange..on my knees, shoulders and had it on my ankles. they seem to go away on me in 2 weeks but i got them again.
One of my dogs (noncollie) was given the heartgard injection (not pill, it was a higher dose) and immediately she stopped itching for about 24 hrs, but then started again because my other dog wasn’t given the shot
skin culture ruled out bacterial and fungal infections
allright no revolution. CRAP. the white sulfur should come tomorrow I had it 2 day delivery. i don’t know if that will work now because I’m thinking, these mites burrow under the skin how is anyything topical going to work
I’m sorry I was upset when I wrote this

i can only read directions and talk to my vet.
but i think it says to use for a month. so i would think it is over medicating the dog.
never knew of anything but to have vet test and treat mange
good luck with your searching.

Question by Roxi: Treating My Dogs for Sarcoptic Mange Can I also Treat My cats?
Hi There Again,
Here I have yet another question…
I have been treating my dogs for Sarcoptic Mange after my Maltese began loosing his fur…Long story short he was being treated for allergies bu my vet since october, I got a second opinion from another vet after I realized my other dogs were scratching, they found scabei (mites) in the skin scrape now I am treating all my dogs.
The meds and dip have been working great and my dogs look so much healthier and happier especially my old boy who lost most of his fur beacuse of all this. I herd it can pass to my rabbits and cats…:( My rabbits have no contact with my dogs so Im not that worried about them, but my cats walk about the yard, they dont come in direct contact but I just want to know if I could use the same dip which is called DEMADEX (I have put it on the link below) and its to treat Sarcoptic and Demratric Mange plus some other things in dogs. Can I dilute it in a spray bottle and spray it on my cats? I have two and Turkish Angora who loves pleaying with water and my Siamese who hates it! So my question is can I use the dogs formula which is the DEMADEX Rinse put it in a spray bottle and spray it on my cats? Revolution doesn’t control Mange on cats just dogs. I am using Advocate which the vet recommended as it also controls mange.
Please let my know if I cant what else can I do? Can I make a home mix myself??
What about Malaban? Could I use that? Its simular to Demadex although Demadex is more thorough.
Thanks Everyone I would greatly appreciate anything :)
I cannot wait till the day all this is over…I have owned dogs all my life and have never had anything like this before :(

What I am Using Now

http://dstore.com.au/pets/Demadex-Wash-50ml/1084662.html

Malaban

http://www.thevetshed.com.au/product_info.php/products_id/1370

If it helps my dogs are all under the 5kg mark so I dilute 5mls of Demadex to 1 liter of water according to my vet.

Thanks again!!!

Question by suzie B: My dog has fleas and i have 3 other animals i will be treating w/ frontline but my apartment will still have ?
fleas in it but i am kinda scared about bombing the aparment. Will the fleas continue to live even though they will not be able to live on my dog b/c of the frontline? Its september and starting to get cold so that may factor in on the fleas thriving in a colder enviroment. Is there any safer affective way to treat my apartment? I dont want to bomb since i live in a apartment and is not totally safe AND one of my dogs has skin allergies. I want stop these lil pest from biting me and i want them out of me and my animals lives!!!!

Bomb the apartment ASAP. If not you will have fleas in your carpet all winter and they will bite your ankles and your legs and they are gross and dirty.

Question by L.Randy<3’s her Pony!: Are there any home remedies for treating a dog with flea allergy dermatitis?
every spring/summer my chihuahua gets FAD(flea allergy dermatitis) and usually some advantage or frontline plus does the trick, and kills all the fleas on him. so i never have an issue with FAD. but this year the fleas have started early and i wasn’t able to get the flea preventative on him in time. so now hes getting bad rashes and hot spots because of it. So are there any home remedies for clearing it up faster. i have since started him back on the preventative but its going to take time for the FAD to heal up and he is still steady licking and chewing on his hind. anything would help. i’ve heard benadryl or cortisone cream but havn’t got any firm advise.
well usually for him, as long as hes getting the flea preventative it eventually goes away but the healing process seems to take forever. it only on his lower back rite above the tail. and he licks his armpits a lot too, but his pits arnt any where near as bad as his back….

Sadly, no. My dog had the same thing and got very sick. We paid 500.00 for meds because we waited too long and infection got into her ears. It only gets worse.
