My dog is acting very odd…?

Question by Kimi: My dog is acting very odd…?
My dog has issues…she is a shitzu, she has always been house broken, she is 11 years old, allergy to beef protein, has terrible skin allerigies. I’ve taken her to the vet…no kidney problems or bladder issues, he can’t pin point why she is behaving badly…schedules haven’t changed. She turns circles in corners of rooms then will just walk away, she has also started urinating repeatedly on our carpet in several areas (we’ve had these areas professionally treated, several times), she does this when we are home right in front of us and when we are not home (can’t crate her, she tries to dig herself out, ending with very bloddy paws). We’ve tried axiety meds…everything. If we try to pick her up she bites us…actually will bring blood (we have to pick her up with a towel) and on top of all this (actually too many issues to list) she stinks! We give her a bath and within an hour…she stinks…horribly! Even our guest will comment on her smell! Anyone have any idea what could be up with her?

The dog might just be under a lot of stress, or she could be nervous and scared. Try to be gentle with her, and don’t make quick movements toward her.

I have a very Itchy puppy?

Question by evans512: I have a very Itchy puppy?
I got my Puppy two weeks ago, and when I got him he had small bumps on him, mostly on his under side, I asked the breeder/seller what was wrong with him and he said the litter got into ants. So we got him anyway, thinking it was nothing oatmeal shampoo and neosporin couldn’t fix. Well it is now two weeks later and puppy has had those places heal, and new spots turn up. I have been reading online and it seems like he has this “rash” called hotspot in his armpit, and in the creases of his legs. His fur is still thin on the top of his body, and he has some patches where it looks like he scratched so much, or maybe from when his litter mates were playing. I can’t figure this out. He has a vet appointment this coming week, for his check-up and shots, and I will have the vet look at it for a proper diagnosis. He is very itchy, and itches all the time, making his “rash” worse, and new places pop up. I don’t know if he has allergies, or some skin disorder. He eats Purina puppy chow, the “veggie” kind, I bathe him often, which makes me think I am drying him out and making him itch, but He needs baths. And I thought the oatmeal was helping at first when bumps started going away. He has zero fleas, and we also have another dog and cat living in our house with no fleas, ticks, or any of his symptoms. They eat different food (they aren’t mine). When he goes outside to potty he likes to jump around in the leaves and grass, which makes me wonder if he can be allergic to grass? If so how do I train him to stay out of the grass? I am just so confused, and I just want to know what I can do to help my poor guy in the meantime between now and when he goes to the vet? He itches intensly and it worries me.

sounds like allergies to me. To stop the scratching and licking you can buy HYDROXYZINE. Try that. It comes in a pill form and it is taken every 12 hours for about 12 days until the itching has stopped. Depending how bad the rash is you might need to get a cone so that he stops licking while on the medicine.

Question by ?emily?: My shih tzu has very dry skin on her back & butt, it looks like dandruff, what can I do to remedy this problem?
I JUST took her to the vet on Monday for an ear infection and they did a full check up and nothing was wrong with her.

Today I was brushing her and noticed that she still has dandruff flakes that come up when I brush her (had noticed this previously but I figured it was because it had been cold the week prior to noticing and we had the heat on).

She isn’t itchy, and she seems fine, but I don’t think it can be good that shes so flaky like this. She only gets it on her back (top part of her body) and her butt (right by the tail).

* We live in South Florida so I don’t think it’s a humidity problem.
* She eats EVO brand grain free dog food reduced fat. (my vet mentioned switching to just generic iams salmon and rice or iams potato and lamb – is that a good idea?)
* She is brushed once a week and bathed usually twice a month.
* She goes to the groomers every 2-3 months.
* She does apparently have a beef allergy, but she doesn’t eat anything beef related anymore.

Would getting a humidifier for our bedroom help?

Please don’t say take her to the vet, we were JUST there. It’s not a parasite or mange issue. It’s totally a topical problem and I’m wondering if there is a supplement or something I could be giving her to get rid of the dandruff, maybe even wash her in head and shoulders ? lol. Any help is appreciated!!!!
Oh I forgot to mention, when I bathe her I use SPA products. The shampoo and conditioner are both for dry skin and hydration, she always feels SO soft after I use them, but I don’t want to overbathe her bc that would dry her out right?
also forgot to mention her hair is kept in a “puppy cut” not the long flowy show coat – so the dandruff is even more obvious..

Q&A: Please Help. I think my PB is very sick.?

Question by Adora-Bull: Please Help. I think my PB is very sick.?
My APBT is about 2 years old. She had a litter of 8 puppies 5 weeks ago. I have posted question in the past they explain how these pups came to be so you can look at my questions if you would like the details of that, it is a long story. My dogs paws are swollen and blistered. Last week the vet said that she was having food allergies. I am dropping her of at the vet at 7:30 in the morning but i was wondering if anyone has ever experienced this with their dog. Her pads are extremely swollen and blistered and she also has the same blister around her mouth. She has dime sized patches of fur missing all down her spine and it looks like it is thinning on her temple, right below her ears. The skin where the fur is missing doesn’t look like it has any irritation like the skin on her feet. I will know in the morning but for now i am clueless and would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.
She doesn’t seem to be in alot of pain but she is licking her feet alot and doesn’t have any energy.
@ Abby- I said I am dropping her off at the vet at 7:30 in the morning. Can you not read? It is likely that someone besides for you has experienced this before, Dont answer a question that you didn’t even take the time to read.
I had switcher her over to Blue Buffalo about the time this all started, so the vet said it was food allergies. I switched her back to her old dog food, It has been a week back on her old food and now worse then ever. I haven’t had her all that long so I guess she could be allergic to something besides the food. Something outside maybe?
@ OkieRoad, Corgi Girl, and Lady Kelly- Thank you. I will post on this answer when i find out what it is tomorrow. They want me to drop her off so hopefully i will know by lunch.
She was very late into her pregnancy when i got her. I got her on june 12th and she had pups on the 20th. So she hasn’t even had shots yet. the vet wouldnt give her any until the pups are weaned. They said they want to run test on her in the morning so i will be sure to ask if they will check her thyroid. Thanks
I dropped her off about an hour ago so hopefully i will know the results around lunch time. I think it is demodectic mange. I don’t know why he didn’t know this the first time i took her. I thought it was food allergies and he just went off what i said, no skin scrape. They are doing a scraping today., I will post and pick best answer. Thank you.
