Question by Marley’s Mama: my dog has a skin allergy would it be okay too wash him with this while im pregnant?
Benzoyl i will be waring rubber gloves but do you think i would be okay? It does not say anything about pregnant women on the back just to ware gloves and keep away from children, Also i know this has NOTHING to do with the skin allergy because he has always been like this but WHY WONT he STOP licking himself? All day the dog licks his paws. Every time i wake up in the middle of the night he is sitting there awake licking his paws DRIVES me nuts!! wat would be making him do this?
wow that’s some good info on dog food Thanks i will get lamb my next bag :)

And yea the vet gave us the benzoyl but i dont know if i should wash him Because i am 23 weeks pregnant. I just want my baby to stop itching He has been biting himself bald and bloody. We thought it was mange but the doc said as dogs get older into adults they get seasonal allergy’s and gave us benzoyl I am dumb for not asking him But hey we all have out ditsy moments

My dog also has a skin allergy, and at petsmart they have a great shampoo that has really helped!!! I forget what its called but it has almond oil in it and smells great, leaves fur soft and really helped with my dogs coat problems.

And you could also try changing food from anything made with chicken ( shown to increase skin allergies due to what they eat ) to something made with lamb or beef.

I know my dog does the same thing as yours w/ the licking and if the no chew stuff works on your dog try putting some on his paws >>>unfortunately mine likes the taste! ! !

hope i helped :-)

How much would it cost to have a skin test done on my dog?

Question by Kaye: How much would it cost to have a skin test done on my dog?
She itches all the time, scratches and bites and chews on herself all day and most of the night. My vet keeps saying it’s allergies, but the shots don’t help and it’s not going away when the seasons change. Her skin is red and always feels wet…. she smells awful, even when she’s just had a bath, she still smells like…. well I can’t explain what she smells like but she stinks. She gets 3 baths a week, and flea treatments once a month and she stayed absolutely covered in fleas. She’s an inside dog. Only goes outside to use the bathroom. She’s losing her hair off her stomach and back and has already lost all of her hair off her butt.
She’s almost 11 years old….
her skin also looks sorta black in some places.
And if I don’t give her that many baths she gets infested with fleas. I’m talkin about you can look at her and see them crawling all over her.

it could be old age, but i think you are giving her too many baths. take it down to once a week, or once every 2 weeks. too many baths will dry her skin out.

Question by Patty M Puppyadvocate: What would you do if your new puppy arrived sick and bordering on animal abuse as diagnosed by a vet.?
Englewood Animal Health Center
To Whom it may concern;
Mrs Moulton brought in a newly purchased Old English Sheepdog, Luna 11/13/2008. Luna’s general condition for such a young dog was poor. Her integument was very matted, crusted with scabs on the head and dorsum. Fleas and ticks were observed on her coat and skin.
The perineal region was stained with urine.
On examination of the oral cavity this young dog of 11 months showed significate tartar build up and foetor ex ore.
On her aural examination both ears were very waxy. Cytology was preformed and Malassezia was identified microscopically.
Following diagnoses for Luna at this exam:
Peridontal disease (grade 2), flea allergy dematitis, and Otitis externa with Malassezia infection. The diagnoses found and physical exam indicate that Luna was living under inappropriate conditions bordering on animal abuse.

This is why you never buy a puppy sight unseen. Without seeing the puppy, the parents and the living conditions, you have no guarantee what you are going to get – sometimes it’s no puppy at all. And you have no recourse once this happens.

Question by Stacy W: What type of weed or grass would cause my malte-poo to have skin allergies?
She is scratching. Her skin is pink and splotchy. My old dog did the same thing when we moved to this house. My neighbor’s dog did the same thing when they moved here. It has to be in the yard. What could it be? It has even made some of her hair come out. Poor lil poo.

Question by chezza: My German Shepherd dog has a skin allergy. Would a change of diet help?
My beautiful GSD has been itching and scratching herself raw on her belly and hind legs. She has lost a lot of fur and the skin underneath is red. We have seen the vet but he was no help, he said it was an infection and the heat has made it worse. We give her Revolution for flea control, she’s had 2 courses of antibiotics, steroid injections, and medicated dog shampoo baths, but nothing has really helped. She may be allergic to something, and I want to change her diet, but don’t know what is best to feed her. I don’t have the time to home cook meals for her. We are in Australia. Any ideas???
